oil comsumption and rings on 07+ engines

So guys - what's the verdict on the new 3.7L motor. Did nissian fix their issues with oil consumption due to poor piston rings?

I'm thinking about switching from years of Toyota/Lexus ownership but this previous problem on the 3.5 liter motor has got me worried.

well I had my 07 G35 Sedan since new. granted i only have 7000mi, weekend driver mostly. and never seen a drop of oil used by the engine. I was worried about that also, but in 07 Nissan pretty much redid the 3.5HR motor, about 80% is new, and it's a pretty stout block along with the internals. plus all G coupes and sedans come with the 3.7HR VVEL motor now! Hope this helps

Thanks Mike. Please drive another 30K miles over the next fews and report back

It's good to know that Nissan did a major redesign of the motor and that sort of info was what I was looking for. I also don't really understand the different versions/types of motors used except for the displacement sizes (ie: revup?, 3.5HR ect). I do know that the 3.7HR VVEL is the one currently being used.

Were there different versions of the 3.5L motor? some that had the problem more than others?
This ring issue alone seems to justify buying a new car with the 3.7L motor alone.

Thanks again and if anyone else has some additional information, please chime in.

I have not seen one thread on the consumption issue like there was on the 05-06's. I have about 12k miles and everything is good.

17k miles, no oil consumption either. I was paranoid as well -- if it weren't for such an issue in the VQ35 I probably would've ended up with a used g35 instead :P

23K and no oil consumption issues. But it sure goes thru a lot of gasoline.

14K no oil consumption.

no oil consumption on my G35 C when I had it either (for 54K miles)...

i wonder if it had/has something to do with the way folks broke in their engines(?)

^^Nope there was a documented defect in the engine that caused the consumption issue.
