transmission gearbox is the only thing civics can beat us on. civics and rsx's tranny's are way natural to shift.. i hate our transmission

Drive a '09 G37. The '09 6MT is much better than the 07-08 6MT.

I have test driven a 2008 6MT G37 and driven 2 of my friend's 350z's. Coming from a 2006 RSX-S driver, I can say that Nissan's manual transmission sure do feel a lot stiffer/clunkier. My friends have driven my car before and they all say that shifting is a lot smoother and easier. We concurred that shifting the RSX feels a lot more "free spirited" and shifting a Nissan 6MT is more "engaged/feel as if you're apart of the car." Quick shifting is hell of a lot easier and doesn't sound like I'm hurting the transmission compared to the Nissan 6MT's. Regardless of this, I'm still going to pick up G37S soon... I hope!

They tweaked the tranny for the 2008 G37, from the G35 in 2007... but i don't recall any changes from 2009-2009 except for the addition of a 7AT option.

I did mess around with a nissan sentra SE-R shifter, and it was NOT fun, i didnt like it at all.

THere isn't a damn thing wrong with the transmission on the G37s.. don't know what you guys are talking about.. I never miss gears.. everything is smooth.. except for 6th sometimes.. .. that takes a little bit more brain power for me..

I used to own a '07 G35S 6MT sedan and the clutch engagement point was too high and made it difficult to drive smoothly. The clutch engagement point in the '09 is bigger and it's much easier to drive. Automobile magazine commented on it too.

I have no idea you tell me. Thats what this guy said at crest when I called about it. He stated that the noise you hear is normal but if it comes out often then changing to ester oil might help solve the problem.

I'm guessing he was trying to get me to switch to ester oil so I would have to pay for the oil change instead of getting the oil changes for free cause of the warranty. lol

Means they changed the clutch, not the transmission. I guess I wasn't clear on which you were talking about.

FWIW, I drive a 6MT but I would much rather have a 7AT if I had the choice. I don't think there is anything inherently "wrong" with the MT, it's just hard to drive very smoothly. I have driven manuals my entire life, and had my G37S for about 8 months now, and it's still whiplash-inducing compared to any automatic. I even let every one of my friends take my car for a spin, and none of them could drive it as smoothly as an automatic. I thought I (and everyone I know) just sucked at driving, but when Automobile magazine released that 4-Seasons review, I finally realized that it's not just me!

Now that you mention it.. I get the occasionaly whiplash too.. but i don't think anyone can drive a manual as smooth as an automatic.. unless its a car with very little power.. I drove a manual Civic.. when I was 15 and did it really well.. cause there wasnt really any power so hi revs didnt really make a difference..

Ok, I think I know what "clunck" you are talking about - tell me if this is it:

You driving slow in first gear and you barley have your foot on the gas to just move yourslef forward and your other foot on the clutch pedal (almost riding the clutch), you press in the clutch and you hear a clunk or clatter sound. If this is it I'm pretty sure the clutch is disengaged and a the small amount of acceleration pressent torques the clutch /pressure plate assmebly causing the springs in the clutch to pretension, when the clutch is drepessed the pressure plate is disengaged and the springs throw the clutch backwards causing the gear assembly to clunck. The springs are there (well they are there on all the other pressure plates I've seen - I'm assuming the Infiniti has them too) to cushion clutch engagement.
