Help! I think I burned my clutch

Hey guys,

I just got my car and I have about 3000 miles on it now. I tried to do a launch and over rev'd and when i tried to let go and step on the gas it got stuck in the redline and the clutch pedal stayed all the way down to the floor it didn't release. it was only this way no longer than 35 seconds and released after i let go of the gas. Did i F#*# my clutch? I've driven standard for a long time now but since this is my first standard G i'm not sure how to react to that happening.

I have that burning clutch smell but it felt fine for the rest of the drive home which was about 5 mins from then. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Just scared since the car is still basically new. Thanks!

I don't know much about the 6MT but there's always the option of getting a new clutch/lightweight flywheel if you wanted to. I believe there's a JWT one out there somewhere...good luck!

Don't listen to these baffoons. You'll probably be OK. Worst case scenario you burned your clutch disc up but your transmission isn't shot. I had this same thing happen to me (like an idiot) at the track last week when my foot slipped off the clutch. Burned really bad, stuck to the floor, yada yada yada. Bottom line is taht my car is just fine now. I had the smell of burned clutch for a few days, but all has been alright since then. Just be careful next time.

.
i think a heavier flywheel will be easier to drive than a light weight one. its simply too hard to keep the revs up when driving normal on the street with a light flywheel.

clutch burner, try the reverse action methodology, put gear in reverse, and slam on gas and drop clutch (in empty parking lot), hopefully the reverse grinding will straighten out the iron molecules and you might get your clutch back.

Uh hmm. So the clutch pedal stayed to the floor, while you revved to redline for 35 seconds? ... why so long? Launching should be at 3500ish, feather the clutch out til it grabs, and then release fully.

If you held the clutch halfway out for 35seconds while trying to redline it, then OUCH thats gonna leave a mark. it'll still drive, but dang, don't do that again.

If you left the clutch to the floor, and just redlined the crap out of it, then thats just revving...without clutch plate contact, and there should be no damage..just because the car is still new, redlining it gives it a smell.

Thanks for the replies guys, never in my life has this happened to me before and i felt really stupid after doing it. Hopefully tomorrow when i get up theres nothing wrong with it. I wasn't trying to launch that high but for some reason when i started to let go of the clutch and step on the gas more it just got stuck. Maybe it wasn't 35 seconds but it felt like it was doing it for an hour. I just pray that theres nothing wrong. Thanks again!
