Ester Oil?
Ok probably a dumb question but what is ester oil? And secondly I looked in the owners manual and it says nothing about ester oil just 5-30w. I noticed alot of you talking about ester oil and how it cost so much.. I was planning on using Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec are these comparable to ester oil?

I'd appreciate a recap on this issue as well.
I was planning to use Mobil 1, like have have for all my cars for at least the past 15 years. Some came on the board to say Nissan recommended waiting until the 20k mark. Others said never. Interestingly, my dealer says no problem. I don't know who to believe.
Now there seems to be an engine knock problem that Nissan recommends ester oil for @$12 a quart. That to me is total b.s. If there is some type of engine problem, then Nissan needs to fix it, instead of applying a band aid at the owners' expense.
Thanks in advance to the guys who know the probelm.

I waited until 2006 to get a G35 until all the bugs were worked out and I had no problems with it.
Now it looks like I'll have to wait a while before getting a G37. They should have kept the VQ after all the years of tinkering with it.

I don't want to be a "search ****", but there's a few threads here and on other G forums which deal with the European Patent Application and the VVEL technical paper. They should give you all the current information known on this oil.
Oh, BTW, also search "easter" as there's a thread with a typo in the name.

No offense, but you could wait forever and that won't affect or impact the ester oil or VVEL technology.

the VQ has been on the "Edwards Best Engine List"
14 years running, since its begining and most of the time #1.
...not bad at all

If it's the same why does it need this ester oil?
