Engine Break In

Ok, so here's my question. My baby has 450 miles on it - but I need to drive to LA from SFO (370 miles, one way) in a week and a half. By then it should have about 700 miles on it. It doesn't look like i'll be able to get another car to drive down unless i rent one. Is there a way to drive it that much of a distance and still follow the break-in rules? I heard that I could drive it for an hour or two, rest the engine for a few minutes and start again. Is that true?

(btw - im goin to the Metallica concert at the forum - anyone else gonna be there?)

There are plenty of threads with break-in information so I'll just say this, JUST DRIVE! The engine is broken in, don't worry about it.

I put 250 miles on my car, then said f*** you to the break in rules. Hey, it's a lease, right? I haven't even gotten my first service and I have almost 2900 miles on it...oh well.

Several of you provide great reasons never to buy a used sports car.

Provide some scientific evidence as to what we have 'damaged'. My G35 has over 90,000 miles on it (sold it my friend) drove that thing like hell 10x harder than my G37 and the only major thing I've had to fix on that car is replacing the battery. Never had any oil consumption problems or CELs.

The engine is broken in the 1st 5 minutes of driving. The transmission and differential take about 500 miles.
