Transmission: Auto with DS vs Paddles vs 6MT

Wife wants auto, I want 6MT. She thinks auto with the drive sport mode is good compromise (clearly she is wrong). Help me make the case. Which is better and why?

6MT is funner... Nothing like having full control of the car's engine/tranny... DS mode/Paddle shifters are alright too I guess (with a Grounding Kit)... I got 6MT, haven't regretted it since day one... Not sure all AT guys can say the same though... Where do you live? Maybe AT is more practical for you guys... That's what 90% of AT owners say is the reason why they went AT...

Live in Chi Town so I want the 6MT for the extra control in bad weather as well. Planning on putting snow tires on Nov - Feb and am keeping my beater Jeep Wrangler for really bad days. You have the exact car I want -- nice work.

Not this again.. It's gonna get ugly. I'll start. Auto are for people who can't drive. A lot of auto owner then to regret their purchase to switch to 6mt. You rarely ever see a thread about how to change ur 6mt to an auto.

The "traffic" excuse is lame. I live in Socal, work in the Newport area. and stop and go traffic is horrible. I have no problems driving a 6mt everyday.

-----------

Anyways, who's going to driving the car more often than not? If it's the wife, than get the auto.

The clutch pedal is soon to be going the way of the Dinosaur... favoring a dual clutch transmission offering the best of both worlds.

Granted it's still pricy now, but I bet it won't be long till we see it in 45K cars. Auto is a luxury feature and the G's is smooth as silk. The current manual options offer more then enough control for any street driving you'll be doing in any weather. If however you want to emphasis the sport aspect of the G, then Manual will be your choice. So in conclusion.. buy the 7AT and make your wife happy, she will definately hate you if you buy the 6MT... after all you're not thinking of tracking car so give your left leg a break and enjoy the next best thing to the transmissions in car's costing a boat load more.

Yes, think about it. Whats the excuse for not getting a 6mt?

Traffic
Feet will hurt
I want my hands to be free to do something else than work the stick
I want my left feet to rest
I want to concentrate on driivng and not worry about shifting

haha. the lists goes on and on.

All the above are accurate! Could we have the whole list please? A partial list like that doesn't count!

Two

Get one of each. J/K

My last car, the STi, was a 6MT. I miss it. But I am 49 and driving my 11 year old to school and back every day. I get tired at the end of the day. I love this AT car. Not as much as the STi but I love it. The paddles are great for dicey traffic and spontaneous spurts of gas guzzling power. The handling is dreamy. Cept when it rains, but even then it's not scary. The VDC works great in the rain.

The guy is just kidding, give him a break. You bring negativity to the thread without one piece of input.

I'm out of south west Chicago suburbs. I have the 6mt and don't regret it. I feel that I would regret getting automatic.

Not to pump another forum, but alot of guys on this board are socal guys. Check out chicagoz.com. There are cool guys that have Z's and G's. Lots of cool meets. Maybe you could come out to one of them and use that to convince your girlfriend that you need to have 6mt.
