OTS and many others are standard fare on the CAN bus.
Just spent last week testing 6 different CAN bus software packages. I can't post the screen shots of all the parameters you can get. Would if I could. Sorry.
Chamelieon, get on the net and go to the next level of CAN bus specs above and beyond those on the site where you bought the unit. Lots of info on what you can monitor.

I have been trying to register to the OT1 discussion forum but i never get the activation email for my account.. so im like in limbo.. cant post anything.
where you suggest i find info? i pretty much go on trial and error, ill mess with every option of the software and learn myself what everything does.
so far right now im trying to figure out the oem wideband o2 AFR definitions. seems its a 0-5v signal but aftermarket widebands are 0v = 9.99-10.00AFR and 5v = 20.00 AFR ..but oems can usually read to 32AFR ..at least the 02-04 honda wideband sensor im used to can. once i find this out then i can tell where the ecu is keeping the AFR. so far at idle its 2.20-2.30 average.. so thats telling me its around 14.5ish.
but i need info!!! not enuff little techies on this site!! lol

Don't expect too much from the OT1 forum. I have my opinion but we all know what opinions are worth.
Here are some places to go. I only did a general search but these places seem to have some decent info.
http://www.kvaser.com/can/
http://www.mjschofield.com/
http://www.semiconductors.bosch.de/en/20/can/index.asp
http://www.ni.com/can/
These sites should get you started. Do a Google search on "controller area network".
The Dearborn Group site doesn't have much in the form of tutorials but I suppose it's because they offer classes on it. That's where I got my formal training and I've had a great working relationship with them for several years. Sort of an informal quid pro quo type of thing. I call their engineers directly when I need support on CAN and know them on a first name basis. IMHO, they are all first class people. All of our systems use the Dearborn DPAs.
Keep in mind that the Germans will have really good info since it's pretty much their concept but they tend to play very "close to the vest" with particulars.
Also know that vendors are really touchy about proprietary engine/transmission/brake codes so don't expect any details from them. The spec allows for that and it kind of levels the playing field.
On the AFR, I thought that nominal stoich (lambda) was 13, not 14.5. It's been a while and I usually don't deal with that. For tuners, it's critical data. Maybe something else is affecting the numbers.
Have fun!

All of the stuff I do is for diesel engines. Except for the ignition systems, it's all pretty much the same for gas engines parameter-wise. Software-wise, have a look at the sites for Caterpillar and Mack for engine stuff. Allison is good for tranny stuff. Wabco and Bendix have the brake stuff. They should all have info and screen shots for their diagnostic software tools. You may find that Nissan, Toyota, GM, BMW, etc. might be funny about releasing info. Can't imagine why.
Fine print: I have never visited these sites. I already have the software from all of them so I have no need to go there. Still, all of them have decent software packages so I'm sure they have some advertising and info available.
See my reply to Chamelieon for CAN bus info.
For those of you screaming "he works diesel and we run gas!", don't even go there. You're not smart enough to be a part of this discussion.
Do I get a prize for being politically correct on that statement?

If you captured the data AND it's in a format I can handle (read that "no special reader required"), I'd like to have the data. I can read several formats.
Data I'm interested in is initial starter current surge, RPMs/sec and, of course, intake temp vs. coolant temp.
Possible?
I suspect that some of my control data is wrong. If I could look at the unbiased data you're getting, I could figure that out (thank you Mathcad).

I couldn't see what you were looking at, parameter-wise.

Oh, I have another idea you can try. Do you own an iPhone or iPod Touch? If so, you can turn it into a wireless mouse for your Windows PC and put your laptop in the backseat or on the floor in the back while still being able to control it. Check out these sites:
http://rpatechnology.com/airmouse/
http://www.mbpowertools.net/
http://www.logiqu.com/iPhone/WinRemote/
http://hoofien.com/******/Home.html
These are all about $6 at the iTunes Store. Just a thought.
