Oil Consumption on G37
Am I the only one with an oil consumption issue on my G37S 6MT??
The level went from full to half way between the dots in less than 2000 miles...and is sort of staying there.
I drive like I mean in but I don't race. I've been having this issue from day 1 (10 miles on the odo)
I ve tried 5-30 in Quaker State semi-syn , Amsoil, Motul ... no difference.
The manual says that the engine will burn oil depending on the driving style, and the level should stay between the dots it's normal. However everyone else here reports absolutely no oil consumption on the g37s and so I'm confused...is there something wrong with the engine? Should I check the spark plugs?
The infiniti techs are pretty useless and clueless for the most part imo.

dont use syntethic motor oil, depending what you started using since your first oil change might be the cause of your situation. i think its not recommended to use syntethic until you reach over 10k miles or so. regardless your issue is from using no dyno oil.

I'm also going to stick with Motul from now on....and monitor the spark-plugs for excessive fouling... I'll have the dealership note the consumption everytime in case this develops into a premature cat-failure or something.
Is there a thread where we can compare plug tips at ~10K miles?

The oil is still sort of clear. It the Quaker State semi-synthetic that the dealership uses. It seems to have consumed oil till it reached exactly halfway between the dots... and then does not get any lower than that for the last 1000 miles. It's be about a quart to refill to max I believe, which is what I've been doing for the last three oil changes, but not this time.
If it stays at the halfway mark for another 1000 miles I guess it's probably just burning away the excess oil to maintain a safe oil pressure? which is normal?
I'm just confused whether or not this is proper behavior or not. Dealership says that it's normal to be consuming a little oil. Manual says that as long as it's in between the two dots between oil changes it's okay.

New engines can use a bit more oil while rings wear in. That would explain the drop in OC. All engines will use some oil given a long enough OCI (oil change interval). High rpms can also increase OC. As long as your using less than 1/2 a quart in 5K miles after break in, I wouldn't be concerned. Most engines should be fully broken in after 10-15K.
