Got a check engine light too :-(

Threw my first CEL today. Last night when backing into this area to fill up the rear tire with some air, I didn't see this bump thingy in the road (it was dark) and hit the section of the driver side tanabe that connects to the stock mid pipe, which caused my driver side exhaust to move towards the front of the car by 2 inches, and dig into the muffler cutout on the body, which luckily was on the very backside so you can't see it. The exhaust went in about two inches, but i was able to pry it out, it looked uneven. I took it to a muffler shop, and they were able to make the tips even again, I asked about there being an exhaust leak, but they said that it started up fine, and didn't see anything that looked like it could cause a leak, just a bent exhaust hanger, which they bent back into place. Well driving home today from work, I was driving pretty hard, and all of the sudden I got a CEL. The car doesn't idle rough, although the engine does sound different to me, but the weather has been pretty cool, and I haven't driven in colder weather since I've gotten the mods. My current mods are Tanabe y-pipe, Tanabe Medalion Tourning rear section exhaust, and JWT Pop Charger. Can a exhaust leak cause you to throw a CEL? I did the foot pedal dance to reset the ECU, and drove the car 2 miles, and the CEL didn't come back. If its something serious, the CEL will come back on won't it? I'm going back to the exhaust place tomorrow and have to do more of a detailed inspection to make sure its not an exhaust leak...

You should get the SES code pulled to see what it is first.

A couple of questions about getting the code. If I go to autozone, will they know where to plug in the reader? cos I sure as hell don't. LOL...also, if I reset the ecu doing the foot dance, will it show the error code in the history? or did I wipe it out when I reset the ecu? I am sure if it is something serious, I'll trigger the SES light again.

Update!!!

Took the car into the exhaust shop. They found two leaks, one on the driver side where the y-pipe connects to the cat's...which i figured was were the leak was, since i would here this pssss sound when I shut off the car, I could here the sound coming from that area with the door open. 2nd leak right before the 02 sensor from a broken weld I am pretty certain that is what set off my SES.

Problem solved id say... Can you described this broken weld? Anything before that 02 sensor will kick the CEL .... are you going to reweld or buy HFCs?

That is covered under warranty so the dealer can take care of that for you.

The broken weld, was tiny, looked like a small L shaped bracket. If anyone has a pic of the stock cats, I can circle the area that was damaged. The exhaust place replaced the gasket for the y-pipe and re-welded the area with the broken weld. Only ran me 47 bucks.

Glad things worked out... I am guessing the broken weld was in the Cats?
