hmmmm..... i thought i had made the title of this "for those who change their own oil". i wasn't expecting most of the responses to be something along the lines of "let someone else do it for you"
call me old fashioned but i have a sense of pride for taking care of my own car. anyways, i got the answer i was looking for, its just kind of disappointing to me that there doesn't seem to be too many people on here willing to change their own oil. its fairly basic, saves you money, and for me gives a sense of pride. if i have done it myself, i know that the job is done right.

Sorry, to hijack your thread, yea I remember the days of enjoying changing oil, I use to be able to bury the oil, now I dont' really have a good method to get rid of it and it's not worth the hassle, besides is another excuse to take the G out for a drive.

I enjoy working on my car, so I do my own oil changes (not that people that don't change their own oil don't enjoy working on their cars). I guess it helps when you have a buddy that works at a shop and you have unlimited use of lifts so it makes it easier. It takes me about 20-30 mins and I remove the whole plastic pan cause it is actually easier and cleaner that way. But the 4 inch section does the job also. We usually shoot the shat, order lunch and detail the cars. It's a ritual and a good way to spend the afternoon.

Yep, same here. I do have a premium version as well...
Instead of 15Min of CNN, go outside and watch the hot service chick drying cars as they come out of service. When she ask how come you aren't getting your car washed tell her you'd have to know her better before you'd let her give you a wash
Feel free to depart some washing best practices like using a clean MF mit & towel for each car to break the embarasment... she will remember you.

Back when I got my car the doofus dealer was being a jacktard, so I made him give me 4 free oil change coupons. So here's my revised DIY:
- Pull into your local Infiniti dealer's service valet
- Greet the nice Service man and ask for an oil change
- Grab a free coke or coffee and peruse the new G37S's for 15min
- Watch CNN for 15Min
- Don't pay the lady
- Pick up your car

this is exactly what i do now. I used to change my own oil/filter in past cars but it became quite troublesome to dispose of the old oil, so i now prefer to go to my dealer as you say (mornings are best because they haven’t yet run out of free doughnuts).
in addition to looking at the new cars, i also like to browse around the parts department area looking for new trinkets and accessories.

I love changing my own oil on the G and, after my own debacle with removing the entire plastic piece, I love having the crease that allows very easy access to the drain bolt and filter!

I hope you didn't remove the whole underneath plastic / underpan. There is a small 4 inch flap that bends that only requires about 4 screws to be taken out and then you have full access to plug and filter.
Honestly, it doesn't take me longer than 10-15 minutes to change the oil in the G37.
