What gear do you top out at for city driving, (6MT)
#34
I get it into 6th as soon as I can too. That's usually anywhere over 30mph. For people driving around in 4th to be able to have more power, your car does allow you to down shift.
That's a terrible argument. Just because some of us are trying to not pointlessly waste gas doesn't mean we can't afford the car. I consider myself to be pretty well off. 26 years old making 6 figures as an associate VP / Regional Supervisor for a bank you all know. I also basically live with two incomes because my fiance and I have lived together some time and she's not doing too bad either. Some of the wealthiest people in the world are the biggest money savers. I can easily afford the car, and I like having something sporty that I can unleash when I want to. But I find it wasteful and meaningless to always be revving 3k+ b/c a ricer might pull up next to me. And ivory37, I'm with vINCe_INC. That was a terrible argument...

+1, I actually tested this today going 40 MPH in 4th, then 5th, then 6th, each time on a straight road with no traffic and for approx. 1 minute each time, the bar on the real time MPG bar was in the same spot in all 3 cases, as long as the throttle was feathered to just maintain my 40MPH speed.

And yea, our cars aren't very fuel efficient. 16-19mpg here.

I generally follow this rule. I have been in 6th at 30-35mph and the car feels like it has no guts to it. And there's really not that much difference in rpms between 4th to 6th at such a low speed, so I wonder why the manual suggests going to 6th in city driving conditions? To save a little gas?
