To be clear, modern engines with knock sensors will retard the ignition to prevent knock with octane below the design spec. This causes power to drop and MPG to drop slightly. No damage.
Also to be clear, why on earth would you buy a 330 HP car which provides optimum performance on premium and try to save a few bucks by sticking regular in it. And if using 87 ISN'T about trying to save a few bucks, why are we even talking about it? So what you are saying is you can afford your car and you can afford to put premium in it, but you purposely choose to put 87 in it, not to try to save money, but because you drive like an old lady???

So what can choosing a lower grade of gasoline, do to the engine? Problems range from rough running and poor fuel economy, to clogged fuel injectors and carburetors, to holes in cylinder walls and other major engine damage.

Ok. I will use the proper fuel, so I am not a cheap drain on society. Thanks. I do love people who feel like their rich because they can afford a 40k car. I lease the G37 for 350/ mnth, so I guess I'm not among the power elite here that can afford to purchase the car outright. "If you can't afford 91 octane, you can't afford the car, buy a Civic..." OOookaaaayyy...

How the **** did you get it for 350/mo. ? Is it an S? **** Im paying 450/mo. What your down and residual?

wow, didn't know 98 octane even existed. Can you even tell a difference between 91 and 98 anyways? What is premium anyways? 91 or 98? Or is it anything above 91? Gosh...so many numbers
I second the notion that if you can afford a 40k car, you can afford the extra gas that it was made for.

We have 4 types of gas here:
1. Deisel
2. 91
3. 95 (Which the call 'Special' here).
4. 98 Premium (Cost is $1.7 a gallon).
There is a big difference in performance between 91 & 98 I even feel it in my 2002 4cyl Jetta.
I never put anything less than 98 in my G. I own my car + Gas is cheap so there is no reason to get anything less.
