DS > MM > D 5AT blows

Im so sick of the Manual shifting mode, if you're in Wide Open Throttle the car lags on shifts like no other. Compared to DS and even regular D, when in WOT the car shifts A LOT slower when you use the paddles/**** (manual mode)

I dont understand why they would set up the car to react that way.

The only purpose i see for Manual Shifting mode is to hold the car in the desired gear, for example a 20mph roll in 1st. Once you pin it, if you want the fastest shift, you must quickly shift to D, and then back to DS before the car reaches 2nd gear.

Yeah tiptronic is mostly bull****. It is still a auto transmission which means although you are in a mode to manual change gears you are still stuck with the anatomy of an automatic transmission. I think most of the lag of shifting in automatic car is due to the fact that the torque converter may not be responsive enough, I may be wrong.

Other than that I dont know why the paddle are any slower than the shift ****.

agreed. the paddle shifters seem to be a gimmick more than anything. people on here say the delay is due to shifting at the wrong rpm's which i find to be bs. if i want max acceleration, i just leave it in ds mode now. my buddy's is250 is a dull car to drive, but the paddle shifts are almost instant.

1st gear is all about the timing. The computer sends a signal to shift when you click the paddles. If you click the paddles right at redline the computer wont respond quick enough before you approach the fuel cut off. The car will bog for a split second before engaging 2nd.

If you click the paddles 500 RPM earlier the car will shift out of first at the right time- right at red line and it wont bog.

I dont know why Infiniti set it up t either because the previous gen coupe did not bog before te shift unless you were well into the rev limits.

But like others say if you can't master the manual mode just use DS. I prefer to use MM because there is simply more control over what the car is doing- especially in the twisties.

If you downshift to 1 at WOT within 1K of the redline you are going to have to lift throttle and shift to get out of 1st into second without a delay.

we traded cars for a couple days and I found the paddle shifts to be extremely quick. It was an 06 IS250 with the 6 speed auto.

Mm

For most autox courses the 5at is not the best but a pretty good compromise. I use the MM to hold 2nd gear . This car seems to love 2nd on autox and has plenty or upper range there.

I also get the timing of the 1-2 shift , it is softer than the 2-3 but I love the 2-3 and in dicey traffic, 4th is fun to hold.

This is why you buy 6MT.

Huh?

Am I correct in thinking this thread is about how to make an AT respond to shifting?

Think throttle "feathering".

That ought to provoke some questions.

I hate to say it but unless you are going to change the tranny to a stick get a grounding kit for the car. I put one on my car and the shifts are a lot snappier. Now the car changes gears so quickly that it lunges forward because the RPM's don't go down fast enough, in between shifts. And that is in MM and at normal cruising speed and shift points. During D driving it is smooth because the car thinks better, instead of just doing. Definitely get a grounding kit or at least make one.

so how does a grounding kit affect the transmission of the car? or the ecu?

Supposedly it filters out electronic noise allowing the signals to transfer faster from ECU to the various components.

I had a grounding kit on my previous G. The idle smoothed out a little and the 2-1 shifting became a bit smoother.
