This is a design choice by Nissan/Infiniti and operating as designed. Only dealers who are fishing for warranty work will "fix it" since the replacement parts will make exactly the same sound.

My two previous G35 coupes (05 and 06) did this and my 08 G37 does it just the same. All of them did it from day one, and all of them had <10 miles on the odometer.

Infiniti is not putting a lot of sound insulation around the transmission/clutch assembly and thus you are able to hear it. In my car I also can hear the gear-whine and especially so if I am revving the engine with the clutch pedal released -- this one annoys me more because I can actually hear it in the cabin w/ the windows up -- something Infiniti HAS taken some time to try to insulate.

Completely normal, every standard tranny car, especially high performance cars sound like this.

Fattah made a post on it is it still in the lighting section it needs to me moves *ahem mods* ...i visited his house and his was mad loud i hope mine doesnt get that loud but yes guys i have a 6mt and the idle has the same noise...as of now its very tolerable but my car is only approaching 3k miles...fattah's at 7k was nastier and louder...

infiniti of troy, MI is taking his tranny out and using it as a guinea pig to see if anything's wrong with it. so hes getting a new one but there is a strong likelihood that his new one will still be prone to getting the same noise... if they conclude that it's normal then i may just be out of luck. if it is damn normal than shame on Nissan/Infiniti for not insulating it more. idiots. i dont mind that the noise is there but what scares me is that it gets progressively louder...thats not cool. hwo do we know its done gettin loud then? what if it ends up soundin like a 67 Mustang at 20k...not cool...

I have it too and it doesn't seem to bother me as much as it does a lot of other people. Is our basic drivetrain waranty 60K miles or longer?

Mine makes the same noise too, so I called a good buddy of mine, who is a shop foreman at an Infiniti dealer, and he pretty much said it is normal. He can replace the parts but it will still do it when he is done.

I figure if it falls apart, they will give me a new unit. With that I am going to drive the snot out of it and what happens, happens.

Whenever a cat runs out into the street my transmission makes a very high pitched, whiny noise. Almost like a cat screaming. I don't know if it's related to what we're discussing here.
