Electrical Relay on VVTL Shot...

Had an issue with my 08 G37S... Randomly had no throttle response when I started it up. It would slowly rev to about 2000 RPM's, but no higher so I obviously couldn't drive it. Only 685 miles, so I had it towed to the dealer (obviously didn't pay for that) and they fixed it in a couple of hours and said it was a "bad relay on the variable valve timing and lift." I'm guessing an electrical problem caused an issue with the intake and exhaust valves opening and closing so either the computer or mechanics (no fuel and no air = no revs) decided i wouldn't be driving anywhere. Anybody else heard of this issue?

Your car was probally on a safe mode condition. If a problem happens between the ecm and any actuators or relays (abnormal voltages), the ecm will put the vehicle on a safe mode limiting the throttle response from the IPDM (Intellagent power distribution module). I bet you didnt have a bad relay, the technician maybe just had to relearn the throttle pedal and Idle. The vvel only controls the intake not the exhaust side. The exhaust valve train is conventional. So if you have no throttle response at all then all you have to do is turn the ignition switch off for ten seconds then on for two seconds for about three times. Make sure that you do not depress the accelerator pedal at that time. This will relearn the throttle pedal to specs.
hope this helps.
