6th gear going 80 is past 3k rpm?

Despite the "high" revs commented on, one overlooked factor in gas mileage is the VVEL system on our engines. It controls air, and the less air, the less fuel used. I for one am impressed at how our 'heavy' cars can cruise @80MPH while getting ~25MPG doing so, and yet still have good pickup when you put the pedal to the metal in 6th gear!

I think 5th in the 5AT is about the same as 6th in the 6MT. The TC increases the revs when you apply moderate gas while in 5th- essentially giving some of the effects of an extra gear.
