Shifting Questions...

I kno the manual has recommended shift points (based on speed), i am wondering what the majority of you guys shift at. I try to follow the manual to the dot and its friggin slow trying to shift like that.
.

if you're trying to get max acceleration, shift near redline. if you are conserving fuel, shift at 3K. If you want something in between..well you get the idea.

no what i meant was what speed in terms of km/h or mph. say im trying to turn left on a left on a signal and gota wait till i get a free slot from cars heading the other way. i guess i should really just try to clear the intersection in 1st gear instead of trying to switch to 2nd while im in the middle of the intersection.

I asked the same question in another thread but didn't get much useful info. The manual tells you to shift into 6th at 33MPH. I can barely shift fast enough to do that but nearly impossible. I agree with Callaway. In normal driving I try to shift somewhere around 2.5K and go all the way up to 6th that way. I set the center display to MPG so I watch the orange bar move as well.

Oh, in that case I'd say 1-2 sec in 1st then shift into 2nd. I could very well be in the middle of the intersection at that point depending on its width. It shouldn't change your shifting motion though unless your hands are full trying to steer. Hope this helps.

Just depends on what rpm you're in...not so much speed. I skip shift on a regular basis.

i mostly shift around 2k-2.5k most of the time. sometimes, if i want to run the car hard, around 4k-5k is max for me.

I shift in the beginnig or middle of the turn normally (depending where I start at). No issues with it

Try experimenting. See what works for you. Waiting in an intersection for a clearing, you should be in first and shift to second when you feel the time is right. If there is a car coming fast you may want to wait until you are 3/4 through the intersection before you switch to second. If you are making a right or left hand turn you can choose 1st, 2nd, 3rd or even 4th. I wouldnt recommend it though. One of the things I enjoy about a manual is the control you have over the car. Keeping it in a higher gear with the RPM's over 3k is good for me because then you are in the powerband of the engine.
It's good that you are asking and getting advice but the best way to learn is to try different combinations.
I am not as fuel consious as a lot of the drivers here so shifting at 2.5k would drive me crazy. That's way too slow for me. And not as much fun.
I currently drive an AT but I spend a lot of time in MM so I can control the RPM's. I do miss having a manual but I drive a lot of stop and go traffic so using MM is a good compromise for me.
Just keep driving and find what works for you!!!
