Oil Change
Okay, there has already been a thread on this with as much conflicting opinions as anything, but I need some advice.
I'm coming up on 1,000 miles. Do I get an oil change now, or wait until I hit 2,500 - 3,000 miles? I checked the oil yesterday, and it looks new. It's a light golden color.
In my past six cars, I have switched to Mobil 1 at 1,000K and then changed every 6,000 miles. Apparently that's a no-no with this engine.
Does anyone know the real story, or is this one of those urban legend things that will never properly be answered?
What do most dealers charge for an oil change?
Does the G37 use the same oil filter as the G35 sedan? Has anyone gone to a Jiffy Lube type place for their oil changes? I have one near the house I've been doing business for years, and they are absolutely top-notch.
Thanks for your responses.

First, I am pretty sure we all know you can not judge an oil by its color. So, let's forget what it looks like. Second, going from 1K to 7K without changing oil is not very good for any new engine. You are carrying all the minute broken off bits of engine manufacturing around in your oil for 6K miles before flushing them
I do not know whether this engine needs more miles to fully break in, but having all the internal components bond and fit well is different than for how long it takes until you reach optimum fuel economy, and, thus, optimum efficiency. So, for what it's worth, based on the advice of oil company engineers I know, here's what I will do. As a starter, I will stick with the recommended 5W-30 weight oil. Going to a 10W or a 40 weight oil (I live in Phoenix and conventional wisdom says either is okay) means I will be pushing through spaces, both cold and hot, such viscosity oil was not designed to be pushed through. So, I will use the factory recommended viscosity.
Next, I will monitor my oil consumption, because that is the big problem we are all trying to avoid. If I am not using any oil, I will change the original oil to conventional oil between 2,000 and 2,500 miles. I will continue to monitor my consumption. If I have not used any oil after another 2,000 to 2,500 miles, I will change to semi-synthetic and keep that in for 3,000 to 4,000 miles. If I still have not used any oil, I will repeat. If still no usage, I will switch to synthetic and change every 5,000 miles thereafter.
If I do use oil, I will stay or go back to conventional and change every 2,000 to 2,500 until I stop using oil. Then, I will switch to semi-synthetic and follow the above. If I am using oil, more frequest changes will renew the additives more often, hopefully, helping me to reduce and then stop the consumption.
Hope this helps a little.

$39.95 for a G37
#7
I don't have my G37 yet, probably another 5-6 weeks, so I don't know how it works with my Infiniti dealer. The dealer for my current car charges $29.95 for an oil change, including oil and filter. I bring my own oil, so it ends up being like $21, including tax, for an oil change while I wait (and eat their donuts). Paying $21 is a lot easier than doing it yourself, which is what I had done for years and years.
Even if my Infiniti dealer is $10 bucks more, it is still worth it. My dealer is open Saturdays and is about a block away from a gym I am a member of. So, I'll probably drop the car off Saturday morning, go to the gym, and walk back from the gym. My car should be ready and I've taken care of two things with one trip.

All of the owners manual's and maintenance books say to make your first oil change at 3,750 miles. I have always personally made my first one at 1000 miles as well. I think I just always heard that you should so I am in the same boat. I guess for $40 it doesn't hurt.
