DFW G35 Club's Very Own Health & Fitness Thread

This thread was started after talking to Randy and Moog and Hugh and Hugh's Mom, and Melissa, and Hugh's Grandma. I determined that there is a pretty decent amount of fitness knowledge among our members.

Therefore,

Anyone who has a health, nutrition, fitness question may post it here. If you would like to begin a new fitness program or alter an existing one let us know. Tell us what works best for you. Let us know your fitness goals and lets pull together as a group to make eachothers lives a little better.

Weight loss is a psychological and physical challenge. I HAVE to wear my "dave" thong when I work out. It give me a boost of confidence when I run, stretch, lift..etc and I know other people see my persistance and energy and I tell them what motivate me. The granny panties are too confining and when I wear my thong when I run, the *** actually moves in larger pulses therefore in turn looses fat. The thong acts like a banana hammock giving a boost in confidence over my pick spandex bikershorts and holds the package nicely. When I am squating in the mirror, lunges, or pelic thrusts, I think to myself "I want to be and look like dave" and if ever in doubt....I look down at my crotch and talk to dave and ask him "should I quit?" and he goes.."NO, GET YOU FAT *** BACK ON THAT TREADMILL AND RUN YOU FAT BIATCH" and I go "okay"

That is how I stay motivated to work out and eat right

Well now that we know how Hugh feels.....anyone want to discuss this topic......FOR REAL.....or should we just let it spiral out of control into the land of lost posts that are destroyed by Hugh and I bashing eachother, eachother's moms, workout clothing or sexual preference.

Dave, I've locked the thread so it can't move lower...I'd like a suggested meal/work-out plan for me...as we've discussed, you and I are about the same build...can you throw something together as a daily/weekly regimen so that I can get my 6 pack back and tone back up? everyone else can keep there opinions to themselves (unless you have a real suggestion)...you know when i was in the best shape of my life? When I was a character at CHUCK E. CHEESE between 16-18 yrs old. A whole 'nother thread...

Well First tell me your goals and time you can dedicate to this per day. If you have like 45 minutes to work out in a day it will obviously be a different plan than if you have an hour and a half to work out. Plus give a feel for you goals. Power, Health, tone, sports, etc. Then I can better understand where you are trying to get to and build a workout accordingly.

Randy,

From what you said in the other thread it seems as though you were just extremely active back then. You were playing football, had two jobs, and went to school. That higher level activity kept the flab off. Now you work from home and are probably sitting all day doing work.

Dave: 45 min/day work out...health, tone and sport...if that's possible...

William: you hit the nail on the head...I want my wife to look at me the way she used to...not that she disses me now, but a man knows when his wife is LOOKING at him...

Randy,

What kind of access to equipment do you have? Home gym? local gym?

I would say your #1 goal should be to look at your diet and eating habits. I think I touched on this at Velocity. As hard as this is while you are at work all day, you should try to put away 6 to 8 meals a day. Smaller than real huge meals but make them effective. Proteins, complex carbs, lean meats, veggies, pasta. The advantage to eating like this is the increase in metabolism and your body constantly has food coming in so it doesn't need to store extra energy for when you are not eating during the day (i.e. fat) It will smooth out your energy levels and you won't have what is know as an "energy spike" after lunch and dinner.

A lot of good eating has to do with what you drink in your day. Water is best, Powerade or Gaterade are second, a glass of milk here and there is okay, Beer, soda, sugary juices are not the best. Eliminate One soda from your day and you are talking about 300+ empty calories and 45 grams of suger out the door.

As for your workouts: With your limited time to allow for a good jog/lift, I would say to break down your week by sections of the body. Monday: Chest, Tuesday: Back, etc. For most of your muscle groups it is important to hit the exercises that will do the most for you in the most limited amount of time. For example: Bench Press is good because it works a lot of muscles with one movement. The same goes for a Lat pull or seated row for back and squats for legs. All of those work a tremendous amount of muscles in one simple movement.

If you are eating right Cardio can be kept to a minimum of about 15 to 20 minutes as shocking as that sounds. All you are trying to do is strengthen your heart and promote calorie burn. The trick with your cardio is: High intensity. 20 minutes of sprint intervals, suicides, stairs will give you a cardio boost without making you skinny like a Kenyan mile runner. Sprinters are always big guys, there is a reason for that....take after them, do sprints not distance running. You'll thank yourself. I'll post my Workouts, exercise list and different food choices later today.

I'm a big proponent for keeping it simple when training. Focus on the compound movements like hyper said. Squats, deadlifts, bench, pull ups, military press, rows are pretty much the only things I do. I hardly do any isolation exercise at all anymore (concentration curls, tricep kickbacks, calf raises, etc..)
