Steering lock failure : possible workaround?
Hi,
Like many of yours, my G37 coupe doesn't start because of a faulty steering lock unit. Mine is a 48700- JF00A, which was recalled by Nissan on the 370z & GTR, but not by Infiniti.
I read hundreds of posts on this failure and I know almost by heart the G37 workshop manual.
In my case, the steering is in a "in beetween" status because the steering is not blocked but not completely unblocked so that the BCM prevents from starting.
We have in France only 3 Infiniti dealers and, according to the Murphy's law, my G37 is 350km from the nearest. I would like first to avoid the tow cost and find a least a degraded mode.
So I have 2 questions about 2 possible workarounds and I need your advice.
1) Can I "fool" IPDM/BCM forcing the value of 32/33 connectors to BatteryVoltage/Ground, so that BCM thinks ESCL unit is correctly disengaged?
Here (attached) are the ESCL conditions delivered by the unit to IPDM:
Attachment 103431
Has any of you experienced it, without damage to other components?
2)I found a crashed 370z equiped with the same unit (it's a D version, reliable). If I buy it, can I connect it pending (not installed on the column, I'm not able to do it myself) and drive like this to the dealer?
Thanks in advance for your help?
Phil

There are a ton of threads on Nissan 370Z Forum with various fixes to try to get the car moving once again. When you do get it unlocked, you can pull a fuse under the console and that seems to take care of the issue once and for all.

Thanks for your answer.
But I have already read most of this megatons of threads.
In my case, tapping/hitting the unit doesn't help it to completely unlock.
My proposal was quite different from those already explained and I wonder if it just makes sense.
