No I just slid it off and slid it back on. Should I just raise the car back up, undo the bolts, straighten the wheels and then the steering wheel and then tighten again? Do you know the torque specs on these bolts? I had a nightmare that i didnt tighten enough and I crashed!
You should definitely try to get it realigned. It should not be able to slip out easily at all. It is very important for that connection to be tight, you can lose control if it comes loose while you're driving.

The knuckle should look like a universal joint in a socket set. It has one bolt that tightens the ring on the lower section right where it connects to the steering rack. You should have marked your alignment before you messed with it.

That is correct, just turn it to straighten your wheels, loosen, tighten, and try to see if it's straight then.
I thought you were saying you didn't have to unbolt anything. It should definitely not be able to slide out of the steering rack without unbolting something.

If you get stumped, it might not be a bad idea to take it to a wheel and tire shop and have them take a look at it. However, as long as you get your steering wheel straight relative to your wheels, you're probably fine.
Either way, an alignment won't hurt anything other than your wallet, make sure you mention what happened and they can make sure you're all straightened out.

Irwin Industrial Tools 394001 Bolt-Grip Bolt Extractor Base Set, 5-Piece - Amazon.com
This is what I ordered to extract the bolt. Will this do the trick?
Isnt breaking this bolt ok? If it breaks, shouldnt the Cat pull right off and then I just replace the broken bolt with a new one?

12 point sockets should burn in hell. As a general rule, if you are using anything bigger than A 1/4" drive ratchet, I'd recommend 6 point. But I guess you know that now...
I've got some 3/8" drive 12 point sockets that came in a set. I don't use them unless it's something small that requires very little torque. Stripping bolts sucks.
