Steering Wheel Trim Removal/Replacement DIY
Hi All, I haven't seen this anywhere, and I see a lot of people requesting it, so here's a DIY for taking apart your steering wheel to replace that scratched up trim piece!
Here are the tools you need:
1. Remove steering wheel (check DIY for paddle shifter installs HERE).
2. Here's what you're starting out with:
3. Remove two T-40 bolts from the airbag tray (be sure not to lose the springs underneath each bolt):
4. Remove back trim from steering wheel using your hands. There are four clips holding it in. I find it easiest to do it in left/right pairs, rather than top/bottom:
5. Next, remove these three screws with a phillips head screw driver to get the button&trim assembly off:
6. Finally, to separate the buttons from the trim, remove these six phillips head screws:
7. Done! Just go in reverse to reassemble (with your new trim)!

Since people have been asking, things you'll need to wrap are:
- Patience
- Vinyl (12"x10")
- Heat gun (this is *much* better than a hairdryer)
- Exacto knife
- Scissors
- Spray bottle (with water and a drop or two of dishwashing soap) - this keeps the vinyl from sticking when you don't want it to.
- More patience

Can the steering wheel trim be removed without taking the steering wheel off?
