I heard something like they didn't want to sell the part individually anymore. But that is just what I read, could be completely wrong.

Thanks much mikaly for making this thread.

I've never been a very handy guy - more of a computer nerd honestly. I just got my G recently and it is making me want to get into the DIY scene, especially with great threads like this one.

I am very afraid of making a mistake though and somehow setting off the airbags. Can anyone give further advice on what a total newb should keep in mind when removing steering wheel, so as to avoid airbags or any other problems?

Going to go buy some tools after work tomorrow and start on this one I think. Is this a good place for a novice to begin?

As long as the battery is disconnected before you remove the steering wheel, and you only reconnect the battery after you finish reinstalling everything, you should be fine. Some people also recommend waiting 5-10 minutes after disconnecting the battery before doing any work to make sure everything's discharged.

Yup, the difficulty rating on this is very low. The hardest part is probably getting the airbag screws and steering wheel nut the first time since they're on there tight! The more leverage you can get on them, the better. Make sure you get a torque wrench so you can tighten everything back up to specifications!

Thanks for the response Mikaly. I just googled what a torque wrench is and you blew my mind :P I guess 'tighten until it is tight' is not the correct method.

Nicely done!

hey everyone. I just got this done and swapped my steering wheel with a carbon fiber one. Here's a problem that I ran into. When i connect the battery back in, the horn won't stop blaring. Had to disconnect that little ground cable next to the steering wheel audio control to make the horn stop going off. Now my car has no horn. No other lights on the dash are showing..

Does anyone know the problem??
