i bought 14ft of 8G non oxy wire, 4 4g wire black chrome crimp rings, 8 8g black chrome crimp rings, and a package of shrink tubing to make it nice and clean and it cost me $37 and change.


it's very inexpensive.

The wire is silver plated copper wire with a clear jacket, it looks silver but it is copper wire. i was only able to find the silver colored ring terminals around me. idk if they are steel or alum or w.e... but would they be ok to use or should i search the web and find some copper/gold ones?

 

Gold ring terminals are a waste of money. Made a set for myself and another forum member recently and used black chrome terminals. They both came out pretty good.

Don't waste your money on gold. Any decent stereo shop should have all the materialsthou need to make a good set.

wasnt really thinking gold was important. just wanted to make sure it wasnt like useless to get steel terminals as opposed to copper because the op stressed that oxy-free copper wire was necessary.

 

I would say so. Like I said, I personally used the black chrome ones and theyre corrosion resistant. Whatever is easiest for hand gets the look want...because they will ALL function the same.

just installed mine, took some videos before and some after, and im about to analyze them and ill post them up so everyone can see. as for first impressions, it seemed like the lag was a little bit less in manual DS mode, but the videos will show us the truth lol

ok so i opened the videos in movie maker so i could get time comparisons.

keep in mind that these times are at .25x speed so it all really happened about 4x faster, and the time codes dont match up because they are from different parts of different videos obviously... but here's the numbers i got for 4th gear going on 5th (the other gears were a bit harder to do because of shortness)

the click is the sound of the shifter shifting.

4th gear b4 wires-
53.57 click @ 3200RPM
54.62 changes number to 5
57.53 shifts (RPMs drop) @ 3300

57.52 - 53.57 = 3.95 (or about 1 full second real time)

4th gear after wires-
11.61 click @ 3050 rpm
11.66 changes number to 5
13.72 shifts (RPMs drop) @ 3150

13.72 - 11.61 = 2.11 (about 1/2 of a second real time)

the initial time is DOUBLE the time with wires... even with driving variances and the slight difference in shift RPM that is a HUGE diferance. it would seem to me that this did in fact reduce shift time.

but heres the videos i took. if someone wants to try to check the times themselves and maybe find more comparable shifts than it would be nice if you post your results:

Great DIY. Did the work on my car last night and the instructions were easy to follow. As far as results go, I've only had the car for almost a week so I'm afraid I can't objectively say whether or not there is an improvement; but it feels like the audio is a little better, though i have yet to try the tiptronic shifting as I woke up and went to work. As far as I'm concerned, any improvement in shifting time is worth the effort and cost.

This thread deserves an award , I followed it step by step from creating a grounding kit to installing And it's a day and night difference with and without one. I was skeptical but took a chance and spent $35, and from experience the shifting in ds mode as dramatically improved, my stereo sounds cleaner (amp n sub Installed). Best $35 mod I ever bought.
