Installing springs(question)

a shop by my house said hes charging 300$ for installing 4 springs. i've heard that with a second set of hands its not too bad to DIY.

Thoughts? and if i diy, how would i get access to the bolts holding in the rear shocks?

IMHO I wouldn't DIY just b/c there is stuff that can go really wrong. If you know what you are doing, then I would think you'd be ok, I just get nervous around suspensions.

$300 seems super expensive...I got mine installed for $145 for all 4 Eibach PK.

i saw youtube for the videos, seemed fairly simple. lift car, take off wheel, take off struts, use the spring compressor or w.e, take out spring, put new one in, have someone push it down while you screw it back on, reverse steps.

Pay someone. 300 is way too much though. There is one bolt on the front struts that is very difficult to get off and can risk stipping it (happened to me). Then if you are doing Eibach springs conventional spring compressors from autozone etc. will not work. Atleast none of the ones I rented would. The top of the eibachs is too narrow to get the spring compressor in.

I did it myself, fairly easy. I have coilovers, so it was easier to just take the whole spring and shock together. As far as the rear bolts, you can access them by just simply unscrewing the two top screws that hold it in place. Meaning, you dont have to take the interior apart, you can see them by just looking up at the shock, you'll see the two bolts.

if you're just installing springs, you don't need to remove the rear shocks!
the front is a whole different game though. you really gotta know what you doing or else you'll get stuck and mess something up.

here's a short write up for removing the rear springs. let me know if you need instructions for the fronts.

tools needed for the rears to remove the spring:

size: 17mm socket, ratchet and wrench. only 1 nut and bolt holding on to the spring perch. have a hydraulic jack and slide it under the spring perch to prevent it from falling after you remove the nut and bolt. when the bolt is out slowly let down of your jack and the perch is slanted down, you can either use your foot and hands to hold it down and remove the spring. it's very simple.

to install it back you just reverse the process by putting the springs back onto the perch and then slide your jack underneath the perch to lift it back up and be sure to align the holes before you try to jam the bolt back in. don't ever jam it in cuz the bolt itself is threaded.
