Does anyone know if Infiniti/Nissan recommends doing a machine flush (so much force that it shreds a bit of wall on the interior of the transmission)? As apposed to a 3x3 drain and fill?

Hey guys,
When you talk about liking one brand or type of transmission fluid over another, what are the differences you are seeing? Is it smoothness? Less noise?
Thanks.

Redline MT90 in G37 6MT

This is really interesting. The nearby quick lube shop only charges me 20 bucks to do a manual trans oil change. So I went ahead and had the oil changed in my 08 coupe with only about 10k miles. I used MT90 from Redline which I've always used in my Nissan manual trans cars. Well at first the shifting was better but it quickly got worse. Now it is very notchy is most gears, no apparent grinding though but you have to be pretty deliberate in shifting. Strangely, hard driving fast shifting it seems to get better! Anyway I appreciate this advice because I was trying to figure out why the shifting got worse when I switched to MT90. My '96 240SX with 225k miles shifts great still with MT90, although the deals are leaking. Do you suppose Redline contributes to seal wear or what??

Thanks for all the great advice here. I just did a search on "manual transmission oil" and got to the right place quick!!

Important update: A representative from Redline Oils just wrote back to me that their new version of MTL is in fact a 75/85 weight manual trans oil. So no blending is needed if you get their new MTL for any of the G/Z cars! I will try it out shortly and report back to you all.

Edit: Redline rep says that some people may continue to enjoy using MT90 if it suits their purposes. Not me though! I think for track use it may be perfect.

Disclaimer: I am a complete novice and am not a marketing person or oil viscosity expert for that matter. I'm just a Nissan fan and also a fan of Redline per my experience through past use in my old Nissans.

I have this particular Amsoil product and plan to install it soon. Have you noticed any improvement in the shift action, or does it feel about the same?

Well that clears that up for me! Thanks for the update. I've been going to my local distributor asking for the new 75/85 MTL and he just looks at me like I'm stupid. Can't wait to try this stuff out!

Great, thanks for the info!

I see that press release even says, "we think this fluid will be a hit with Nissan Z-car fans." Close enough!

The only procedure listed in the service manual is for a drain & refill. That's all I know.

I know you're suppose to have 3qts for the transmission but I accidentally spilled half of a bottle because of my clumsy self. So I ended up only putting 2 1/2qts. Will that suffice for normal daily operating? Also, as I was pumping it the 2 1/2qts, nothing spilled out.

No! Why would you even consider doing something like that??? If it's supposed to have 3 quarts + 4 oz. do really think it's ok to run it 20 oz low????

Hi everyone, long time no posts!! I finally got some MT85 from my local NAPA store, it took a while for them to be able to order it. Anyway I went to my favorite quick change place, they raised the price to 30 bucks since last year to do a manual trans change, still pretty cheap. Anyway with the MT85 in the gearbox the trans is shifting very smoothly and I can even engage 1st gear while creeping along. Also when the car's cold I can shift from 1st to 2nd, couldn't do that with MT90 without some gear crunching. Anyway, I highly recommend the new Redline MT85 for our cars!!

I'll get another bottle and pump some more in today. I just didn't have the time for it yesterday. But thank you so much for the reply.
