DONT DO IT! lol
Im just like you, do my own work, i put in my hks injens sways coils all that, after reading some horror stories i decided to just have a shop install my HFCs, thank god i did.
The top bolts on the cats are damn near impossible to get off. Even the shop snapped both of mine when taking them off.
All i can say is take it to a shop, otherwise, Good Luck.

I just finished removing the stock cats and adding ichiba test pipes that i ordered. the install itself was pretty difficult as in taking off the bolts. if you have general knowledge then you will be able to do it yourself. The first two screws of each cat can be removed by under the car. Just get a lift or jackstands and you should be able to loosen the bolts. The last bolt at the top of each cat as someone else stated are nearly impossible to take off. A buddy and i actually tried every possible tool and we still weren't able to at least dislodge the screw, but what i figured out was to just remove your engine cover and remove your stock or aftermarket dual intakes and with an extender you should be able to reach the screw and be able to loosen it. Just be prepared to go thru major frustration as it took me and my friend quite sometime as in 3 days to figure out how to remove the bolts. and btw WD-40 also worked wonders for us i recommend using it. Hope this helps in anyway

As stated above the top bolts are a pain in the rear however i was able to do them with my buddy's help. Took us about 3 hours. I had to use a **** load of PB Blaster, i would not even attempt to do it without a can handy. If i were you i would pick up a can or two for 3$ you cant go wrong.
The top bolts are a lot easier to do from up top of the engine bay, get creative i had a 3ft extension with a breaker bar attached and was able to break the bolts (after breaking a few sockets and extensions) loose with some brute force. I would not do the install without a lift ten times harder without.
Best stuff evarrrrrr: http://www.amazon.com/Blaster-Penetr.../dp/B000I2079E
