DIY: Removing the Rear Deck/Shelf
Ok... here's a DIY for the removal of the REAR DECK Panel / Shelf with the brake lamp. This piece is known as the G37 Rear Parcel Shelf by Infiniti.
This is the way I did it and it came out successful with no problems.
Step 1: Pull the release latch for the rear seats in the trunk.
Step 2: Fold the rear seats down to reveal the two plastic tabs. Pull the plastic tabs out.
Step 3: Pull upward on the center of the panel piece so that it comes out from behind the latch.
Step 4: On the passenger side of the car, push down on the left-hand side of the rear deck piece. It will reveal that the panel is hooked into place by two L-shaped plastic pieces. One is in the farthest most of the side panel and the other is in the middle. See the photo with the two holes.
Step 5: Push down on the rear deck with your right hand and pull the side panel towards your body using your left hand. There should be enough clearance for the L-shaped hooks to let go of the passenger side of the rear deck.
Step 6: The procedure is the same for the driver-side. On the right-hand side of the rear deck panel, push down with your left hand and grab the side panel with your right hand. Pull the side panel with your right and allow enough clearance for the L-shaped hooks to let go of the rear deck panel.
Step 7: Now the whole rear deck shelf is loose. The only thing that is connecting it is the brake light. Underneath the rear deck, you'll find a wire but it cannot be disconnected from under the panel because it is soldered to a board. The connecting part is located in the trunk area. Lay down and find the trunk light.
Step 8: Located to the left side of the trunk light is a hole where the connection is situated. Using a needlenose pliers, just lightly pinch the clips together and push to the left. This is the hole beside the trunk light.
This is what you see when you look inside that hole.
Step 9: The clip will come out and run the wire out the hole. Once you do that, your done.
To reinstall, just do the same thing in reverse.
Again, that's just how I did it. If anyone can add anything to this, please let me know. It would be very helpful.
SPECIAL THANKS TO EHUnlucky7x9 for doing this....

Does anyone know how to remove the bose grills from the third brake light shelf and installing them into the new one? I tried prying one off and it broke.
BTW, this install is "easy" if you do it sloppy.
It is HARD to get the anchors on the sides to hook back up...right now i have a slight gap in both of those and probably won't try to fix that...seems really really difficult without taking off the entire back seat side panels.
TIP: put tape on your panels and the fabric upper interior...you can scratch those up really easy.

Thank you to OP and other contributors for this DIY. Just came back from doing this, and a few things came in mind...
dainjarouz is right, removing it is much easier than putting it back in. The way I hooked my anchors back in was by using a slim screwdriver and going at the clips at an angle from bottom to up. If you have a thin hook type of tool, that would help because you just need to pry the clips back down. Since they are fixed parallel with respect to the floor, you have to make them point downward to put it back in those holes. Start with the ones in rear first (the one further from you). Does this make any sense??
- You don't need to have a needlenose plier to remove the clip. If your nails are semi long, you could push the clip to remove the plug with your fingers. Needlenose pliers won't hurt regardless.
- Get a small flathead covered with masking tape or cloth to pry the interior piece that holds the rear shelf edges down (by the door). That really low corner is very difficult to pry back behind that interior piece. I don't know the name, but you'll see what I mean when you install it.
Well, that's it. Took about 30 minutes. Thanks again to all who contributed.

DIY: Removing the Rear Deck/Shelf
Just did this myself and wanted to add a few things to this HUGELY useful post!
First, my dealer wouldn't order the shelf for me, so I went thru orderinfinitiparts.com who were awesome. You order the shelves by description (first pic) - thats weird, but the part number on the box (second pic) jives with what I found online. This a black parcel shelf for a 2008 liquid platinum G37S.
Anyway, the rear panel (highlighted) is what the clips are attached to. Once the shelf is in place, all you have to do is pull that panel out a few inches (from the "pointy" end), then push it back in and the clips just feed straight into the slots on the shelf (assuming it's in correctly). Totally easy. Installation actually went faster than removal.
Hope this helps...

This job is a complete PITA....for one, there is very little room in the back of a G37 Coupe and secondly, the effort involved did not reward me in any significant improvement of sound quality. However, I installed 4 ohm speakers and I just tested the OEM speaker and it measured at 2.0 ohms. But even at a high volume the rear deck doesn't seem to have any significant output. I may try to find a low ohm high efficient 6x9 for the rear deck but it is really tough to install. I took some pics and tried to upload, but this forum didn't work. Anyway, I'll report back if I have success with a different speaker...I am a glutton for punishment.
