Clear Vinal Paint/Rock Chip Protector (Got car back from Wreck, now's the time)

Hey guys, It's Bandit. Sorry I haven't been on here in many months!. I got a Yamaha V-Star 950 Motorcycle for riding in the country (so I can be somewhat safe), no freeways.

OK, I knocked off my mirror and scraped the side passenger doors on my garage and was mad to say the least. Long story short, hit a girl going 5 MPH and her SUV had a few minor horizontal thin scratches, basically ZERO damage. I hit right on a trailer hitch.

My 09 G37 Sedan car's hood, bumper, right passenger front quarter panel was dented, radiator cracked and leaked everywhere, and who knows what else. Anyway, 3 weeks later and a bill of $9,100 I just got it back from the Infiniti Dealer. I had $1,000 deductible, but also got my mirror and other stuff fixed as part of the wreck since it was on the same side.

The wreck was a huge blessing in disguise as my car looks new!

Here is what I am after. What Options are out there for paint protection? You know like the clear vinal type pieces you see sometimes on cars. I've seen a few cars at the dealer that had these on the bumper, front of the hood, and other areas.

What are they called, where do you get them, and has anyone ever used these or can recommend a good brand or place to get these?

Are they easy to put on?

I want to do it soon before any damage happens!

Thanks Guys!

The Bandit..................

Here is why I haven't been on here lately. I bought a MINT 2009 VStar 950 with 730 miles on it. and a w2hole lot of mods all done by me.

Clear Bra. They usually run in the $300 - $500 range, depending on materials used and coverage and installation cost. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you are experienced with vinyl.

I think the most common brand is 3m venture shield or something like that. You also might want to PM da mayor, he swears by another type that gets good reviews. If you look in his profile and search his threads he's got one somewhere about it.

Yup like others say it's called a clear bra. Depending on how much coverage you want it gets fairly pricey. 3m is one of the popular brands that I've seen.

You did 9100$ in damage hitting someone going 5mph? Any pictures of the carnage?

Like previous posters said I would not try to do it yourself unless you are experience with vinyl wrapping.

Is the G your DD? I see you have all sorts of other toys. Unless you do a ton of driving, especially highway I would use the money on your other toys

First off, Thanks Guys for the replies! Yes maybe I was going 7MPH, but there isn't much carnage. It's just that it dented enough of each piece to require a new one be purchased. Again, I was OK with it since I was driving around with tape on my car for 4 months and wasn't proud of my car anymore. Now I'm back in the game.

Those toys took a long time to get. I got the Vette in 2001 and slowly modded it over time. It ran 11.23 at 126MPH in the 1/4 mile as a best. The Vette is almost 13 years old and I just hit 36,000 miles. However, I did so many Mods, it is NOT WORTH selling! I almost have to keep it.

I was driving a 1999 Pathfinder since 2004-2012 that had over 250,000 miles when I traded it in to get my 2009 G37 last year, if you call getting $1,500 trading it in.

I re-did my entire garage December 2012so that's why it looks the way it does. I added lights, epoxy painted floor, got the 4-post lift, added 220 volt power, air compressor, tool chest, etc etc. etc. I love it! The Seadoo is a 1998 GSX Limited I got used in 2007 and it will go 63 MPH! It's fast!

The motorcycle is so much fun! I never owned my own bike before. I wished I didn't like it because it is dangerous and I have a 3 year old, but I try to be as careful as I can.

I don't want to spend lots of $$$$$$$$$$$, heck my piggy bank is dry! But, NOW that I got a brand new painted car (or at least the front of it and hood and doors, I sure would like to protect it NOW before it gets all jacked up because I drive 70+ miles round trip per day to work.

I was thinking just the front bumper, part of the hood, and whatever else is reccomended. I plan to drive my Infiniti for a long time, definately over 150,000 miles.

I am going to check with some places in Dallas, but you KNOW the material probably isn't too bad, bu tthe labor will be high. I need to find a hole in the wall place that wopn't rip me off too bad.

Thanks again guys!

There's also this 3m paint defender, basically a spray on DIY clear bra, it's thinner than a regular clear bra but I'm sure it's better than nothing, and is pretty affordable. Here'e the product link and reviews on Amazon.

I have the Xpel over my entire hood, front nose(including chrome and front lights) 1/2 fender, back of mirrors, door sills and top of bumper by trunk. IT ROCKS! works great. entire install was 600.00 I have had the clear bras on all my g'e and m's. They wax and clean up easily and really help protect the car, I pull them off when I trade my cars in and they looks new.
