Detailed the exterior of my black car today!

So I got up early on a sunny sunday morning and got to work on cleaning my car. I had bought some cleaning stuff earlier from Walmart but was waiting for the right time to use it. These are the steps I followed:

1. Washed and rinsed the car with 'Turtle Wax Ice Car Wash shampoo', great stuff! Did this out in the sun then took the car in the garage for the rest of the work.
2. Bought a 'clay bar' from ebay for $3 and used the shampoo again to run it all over the car to get rid of any contamination.
3. Used 'Meguiars Ultimate Compound' to really bring richness to the color. I bought an 'Turtle Wax Orbital Polisher' to apply the compound and then wiped it off by hand.
4. Used 'Meguiars Scratch-X' on certain spots to remove visible scratches.
5. Opened up a box of 'Turtle Wax Black Box' and applied the Step-1 pre-wax solution using the orbital polisher. Wiped it down using the detailer spray provided.
6. Applied the black box Step-2 Carnuba Wax using the orbital polisher then wiped it down again by hand.
7. Applied no streak glass cleaner to the windows
8. Applied 'Meguiars Tire Cleaner' (heavy thick black spray) on the tires.

It took me 8 hours to get all this done alone and a whole lot of sweat but in the end the results came out great and well worth the effort. The paint is really smooth to the touch and the color is very shiny.

Here are a couple pics of the car with the Black Box Pre-Wax and the finished product. Pics don't do justice. I just wanted to share this with you guys, let me know if you think you would have done something different.

Thanks! It was A LOT of work! I used the orbital polish 3 times to put the compound, prewax and carnuba wax on, but had to scrub it by hand the rest of the time. I probably went over the whole car 9 times! By the end of it I was DONE.

Very nice! take some pics out in the sun! I never used Turtle Wax, glad you like it, will have to try it at some point.

I did a seasonal detail with two stage polish recently. Took me two full, long days. Here is the process I used if you are interested: https://www.myg37.com/forums/car-car...h-results.html

Wow, you used some good stuff on your car. I went cost effective but still spent around $100 for everything. The results were good. It's amazing you spent the time and energy to wax a new car, and a big SUV on top of that!

You'd be surprised how much paint marring is introduced by the dealer during new car delivery process, which is very visible on a black car. You could even see some tape residue! I think if I ever buy a new car in the future, I will ask them to leave it wrapped in plastic just like it comes from the factory, so I can handle the new car clean up myself when I take it home.

I agree, black cars look absolutely amazing when just detailed but they stay clean for about 15 minutes of driving. It is like commuting to work everyday in a tuxedo using public transportation.

yeah i know what you mean. i took my car to work the day after getting everything done and by lunch time there was dust all over it! but as long as i feel the smoothness in the paint, i'm good. i might run another wax treatment on it again with more energy because i spent it all on the claybar and compound last time lol this was my first time doing this on a car so it was a good learning experience.

I'm sure that was a lot of sweat, but job well done. The car looks great, rich and glossy.
