Going to DIY some Venture Shield when my car gets back from the body shop.
Wanted to know how far up the hood the clear bra goes from the frontmost curve of the hood to the end of the clear bra, thanks!

 

I think it's usually around 24 in for partial hood coverage.

 

You might take a look at this new 3M Paint Defender stuff. $25 a can, spray on yourself, good for a year.

 

You can just make it out in this pic. This is from the standard Ventureshield template. The installer is a good friend of a friend. He's done all 3 of my cars and tint.

If you see on the left, there's a little glistening in the sun where the hood meets the fender, you can just make out the line. It does not go the whole way back past the light. On the Z it goes the full length of the light, and on the FX it goes past the back of the light. The template didn't on the G.

Thanks for the info guys. That 3M spray on Paint defender is an interesting product. I'm glad I didn't order the Venture Shield just yet. That would really simplify things, just curious how much coverage you'll get out of a can. I like the idea of being able to remove it in a year since even clear bras tend to take a beating and having it refreshed every year w/ such a simple process may be the way to go. I'll have to do some research on this, if I give it a shot I'll be sure to post a review here.

One thing in it's favor is it's a 3M product and they make the best clear bra material so they know what they're doing.

 

I had the clear bra on for 3 years. Then I had an accident and didn't want it claimed on my insurance so I removed the film so the body shop could do the repairs.
Now my car looks good as new, but I don't have a clear bra on.
I sure like the idea of taping off the front bumper and the hood and spraying on another protective film.
I would do the entire hood, front bumper and mirrors.
I will do some research on the spray on film. If it is a good alternative I will go with it.

This looks really interesting. blnewt, if you do decide to do this please post a review about quality, ease of installation, etc. I would love to hear some more 1st hand review before doing the same.

 

They just did a lab demo with a bunch of auto journalists this week which is where those pictures came from. They were all blown away. Look for some articles coming out soon.

Can't beat the price, I think this stuff will become the plasti-dip of the clear bra world.

Apparently it's exclusive to AutoZone and Amazon. My searching for autozone's turned up none with inventory.. :/

 

This definitly looks promising. I wonder, it says this lasts for a year. So does that film just slowly disintegrate and the effectiveness is reduced over time? Or does it just magically disappear one day after a year?

No, it just may start to yellow after a year. 3M is just trying to cap people's expectations especially in crappy climate areas. They hinted it may be fine for longer.

You just pull it off when you want to remove it.

 

i'd be more interested to mask everything else and spray the bumper instead of the hood.

 

Thought I read an article that said AutoZone isnt going to start selling it until today, so might be better off going right to a store or maybe checking online this weekend.
