3M silicone left white residue! Argh!!!!

I always thought 3M commended higher prices because was in theory a nice brand, with cutting edge technology and performance... With that in mind, I bought their 08897 Dry Silicone Spray to apply to the lower portion of the door panels and some portions of the instrument panel that have black plastic on my 2010 G37xS anniversary edition...

Well, I applied it using a cloth rag, but after the Dry Silicone dried (?), it left a white residue behind that I can't get off... I wonder if it's the propelent, but either way, I JUST CAN'T GET IT OFF!

Help, please?

PS: in the pic, it looks like it's light from the camera's flash, but it isn't. It's really the white residue...

Is it a concentrate requiring dilution before use?

It is spray in a can, so there is no way to dillute it. And I thought of goo gone, but was afraid it would melt the plastic or make it even worse. That thing is really strong,

I'm pretty sure your not suppose to whipe it after u rayed it that's what leaves the white marks cause the cloth makes it dry quicker and leave the pores from the cloth on there. Goodluck

That is a silicone lubricant, not a dressing. You're not supposed to out it into surfaces like that. It's to spray on hinges or in lock cylinders and things like that. I hate to say it, but the residue probably won't come off of any clear plastic. Is that not on the label?

Try goo gone as someone stated above. I believe the GG is a citrus based and I believe it says multi surface. It shouldn't melt the plastic because it's not petroleum based, but read up on it first before trying just to make sure.

Like Betty said though...might be up ***** creek without a paddle on this one.

Another option, maybe replace the plastic piece that got sprayed? Shouldn't be too expensive.

Good luck

Darn it! The can instructions don't mention anything about not using on plastics surfaces. No mention about using either... Feel dumb a little bit now!

I have been using it for a long time on my dirt bike after washes without any problem, but mostly over metal....
