Be careful with a rotary, it's much easier to do damage.

Id suggest an orange pad and Meguiar's M105. It's a moderately aggressive but very easy to use. And it finishes down very fine like a finishing polish.

So the orange pad with a rotary or by hand? Again, I don't know much about polishing and buffing so thanks for the advice. I am going to purchase the splash guards prepainted as suggested earlier.

By hand won't do a lot of good. If you have a rotary and haven't used i before, I'd learn on something besides your car. You can screw it up on that crease if you aren't careful. Go slow.

Exactly what type of machine are we talking about here?

save yourself the time and aggravation and take it to a good body shop. that will not buff out and the fact that you're trying to fix something on a body line without any experience buffing will be a disaster for sure. again, save yourself a couple hours and the possibility of making it worse and take it in for paint.

I watched a little tutorial on polishes and rubbing compounds and I have a general idea of the thougts and processes behind them. I will eventually learn how to tackle things like this....but as the above poster and BB mentioned, I'm gonna bring it in foe this one. I'm too inexperienced for anything luke tgis. Ill try some rubbing compound and polish by hand first but if that doesnt work I'm gonna bring it in. Thanks for your help guys! Such a great community!

Maybe if the results are decent I'll post pics. I'm gonna end up buying a new splashguard though. What's the best way to remove the old one? Goo gone and some heat?

Look at this!!! I'm so psyched!!

You can't even tell it was there! I used Meguire's Ultimate polish and compound. I washed it with Dawn dish soap to clean the area and remove the wax, then first I tried the polish but it didn't take it off, then I tried the rubbing compound. That's what did the trick. Finished it up with another round of polish to remove any swirl marks, then a coat of NXT wax on top of that. All done by hand with microfiber towels. And all it cost me was $20 for the polish and compound!!

Thanks again EVERYONE (escpecially you BB) !!!

Awesome! You got much better results by hand than I would have expected, especially on the splash guard. It looked like the scratches were all the way through the paint. Great job! I bet you're happy.

Happy is an understatement. I was already planning on spending a couple hundred dollars on fixing this: getting splash guards, figuring out how to remove them, then getting it to a body shop for a estimate. I'm ecstatic! There are two tiny nicks in the finish but I can't complain!
