3M Paint Protection Film

3M Paint Protection Film
I was just curious to know if anyone else has experienced any issues with 3M protective film on their G37 Coupe. I took a drive out to the mountains today and when I stopped to top off my windshield washer fluid, I noticed that the 3M film on both sides of the car near the rear wheels/rear quarters was peeled back nearly half way. My G37x is an '09 (purchased new in July '09) which just turned over 17,000km!
Mountains and a beautiful day for a cruise

3M film peeled. Blizzak LM60 on Tenzo Racing Tracer V1 silver 18" rims
This is why I ended up with a G37x and not a G37s!

Maybe, it's just the company that the dealership uses here. There is one primary contractor for 3M paint protection here in Calgary and I've seen other forums with members complaining about issues with the film. A couple issues appeared on Lexus IS models and my friend's BMW 323 has air bubbles and is starting to lift on the hood.
I'll see what the dealership has to say about it tomorrow. My cruise up to the mountains sure cost me a lot of money. Got a few rock chips and a nice crack too in my windshield. Time to see what the Diamon Fusion guarantee is all about... I guess that's the price we pay here in Alberta. At least our cars won't be rusted out like Ontario vehicles.

I know, ontario sucks for cars I got rust proofing, but honestly, I'm not sure how well it works. I hear people say different things. This place is also pretty bad for rock chips. I got VentureShield clear film installed on my bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, A pillars, top half of both doors, and side skirts....I'm so paranoid.

The dealership has nothing to do with that piece. It's a factory installed chip guard and should be replaced under warranty. I've seen people take them off because they don't like the look, but have never seen on just peel off...it's a struggle to take it off on purpose b

Anyways, I went to the dealership this afternoon and they were very surprised to hear and see that the film was lifting. The dealership was so eager to please that they told me to bring the car back tomorrow morning at 7am and their guy would cut two new pieces for my side skirts and reapply them. Hopefully, this time there's a good adhesion but I have my doubts because of the weather. It's cold, wet, snowy, and slushy out and there is lots of gravel, sand, and salt out.
I am also getting a new windshield, free of charge because of the rock chip that turned into a crack after being treated with Diamon Fusion. All I have to pay is a $50 deductible/fee so that the new windshield can be treated with Diamon Fusion. However, there are still some untreated rock chips and pitting in the windshield from the gravel and sand on the road that the glass place said was pointless in treating as I'm getting a new windshield come summer.

That looks like the factory installed piece to me too. I've seen dealer do hood, bumper, etc, but that piece is on both the Infiniti's I've had and I have never had any protective film on my car.

Either way, the dealership is looking after it and it's getting replaced so I'm happy! I don't think I even noticed it being there before I got the dealership to 3M the car. I just assumed that it was film from their installation and not spec'ed from the factory that way.

Bad News!
So I took my car to the dealership on Monday as they were going to replace the peeling stone guard and replace it with 3M film and when they were taking off the passenger's side stone guard, the paint lifted. It is lifted down to the primer. The dealership is taking it to their body shop to be repainted/repaired. I should just cut my losses and get a carbon widebody kit already!

You're telling me! I did a number on this road trip to the mountains. Cracked the windshield, got some rock chips, peeled the stone guard off, and had to sit stopped on the highway for over an hour because of that rollover in my last picture.
When the car's clean, it's diamond graphite. This is what it looked like days after taking it home from the dealership.
