not happy with end result, bodyshop hustle

ok this whole thing was a headache, like most shops they did the following.
this was a 11k+ repair, and I was owed $1200 on the repair due to some custom work (lights/lip).
1st he tells me he will submit the bills to the insurance company & would pay me the difference.
now I was not asking for anything for free, yet his prices were inflated on every item I wanted done.
example he wanted $400 to paint my rear tail lights.
$1200 to paint my roof (it was already painted previously,i wanted it redone. He wants $1200. So I told him"you are going to have to actually do something for the extra $1200, that is mine.
I also had asked him to paint my housings & install some halo lighting. He wouldn't even do it, I had to send it out to get done.
now it comes down to I had to argue with him to paibt my tailights for $250 (at least somewhat reasonable) & sanded down my roof & re applied clear coat. Now besides the fact he wanted 2x the amount the insurance was paying for the lights, only after the fact. While he negotiated with insurance company only to tell me "its not enough money" so I had to send out my own lights. Now I got a short in the light & this guy wants $100+ to drop the bumper for me, so I can send the light back out to the company who did them. Is he being a greedy shop owner or am I expecting to much.
also a 10 day job turned out to be 2 months.
should I press this shop to drop the bumper (ots a whole 10 mins) or am I just expecting to much out of this shop.?
thanks for the input.

They're only charging you what, $50+/hour for labor? That's a pretty good amount IMO.

Of course they try to quote high. They're gonna squeeze you for every penny you have.

I think in situation like I would ask do you have any of these in writing? I believe that everyone needs to make money.. There is no free lunch.. But 11k is not exactly free lunch. He is making some profit when he does 11k worth of work. I do feel like the shop owner should give you some break since already worked on your car. I don't think you are asking for too much here...

The biggest mistake people make is to have a item/service at a set price and then start tacking things on, especially without firm amounts. That is a setup to be ripped off. You should have negotiated all the work up front.

That's why I like the body-shop I work with. I've been going to them for a few years and I've sent them countless customers. Everything is "ughh... how's 100 bucks sound?" None of that; "Well 3 hours of labor plus costs of paint and prep," ect.

I dropped the bumper witb my friend in a half hour.
now I know he was just looking for extra$$.
guess what, when I dropped the bumper I found tons of overspray. And a section of the frame that was supposed to have been fixed. It has the metal exposed with no paint or clearcoat. And for the record, I did negotiate up front for the work. He just kept changing his mind after the car was in his possession.

He's just getting money from the insurance company. You should've went elsewhere- way earlier around the time you got the estimate. It sucks now because you have already crossed the line with your foot. Most places once they get the insurance quote- they try to maximize their profits by overcharging.
