I am about to order some stuff from DI to do a full detail on my BO coupe, and I already have a bottle of scratchX. Is it comparable to the m205 or should I just go ahead and get the 205? I have read the scrachx uses the same micro abrasives as the M products and I don't want to waste money on very similar products. Thanks!

FYI I am planning on getting the m105 as well and using these with a PC 7424.

Definitely not the same…. ScratchX 2.0 doesn’t use diminishing abrasives. I have a bottle of SX 2.0 and I think it works very well for light correction. You should consider picking up a bottle of their Ultimate Compound….it’s even more aggressive than 105/205.

^ +1. I have the scratch X and Ive found its only really useful for very light swirl marks or lightening up scratches or removing very very light scratches.

Although I potentially disagree on the need for the ultimate compound. As I showed in the 2008 Camry b4 and after thread with pictures, the M105 can remove some pretty moderate scratches. He would only probably need the ultimate compound if he had some seriously deep scratches.

So IMO:

ScratchX would be the lightest of the polishes. Able to do very fine swirl marks and very fine scratches, and would lighten up mild scratches but may not completely correct them.

M205 would be able to get rid of mild swirl marks and mild scratches. M205 can be your finishing step or would be a quick 1 step annual polish to remove the normal swirl marks if you take good care of your cars paint.

M105 would be able to get rid of most scratches, up to moderate levels and would be able to thin out or hide more major scratches. M105 could be used as spot treatment to deeper scratches before fully doing the car in M205. M105 usually needs to be followed up with a lighter polish afterwards, depending on your level of satisfaction and the color of your car and the paint.

Ultimate compound would only be needed for up to moderate scratches and imperfections and might need to be followed up with a lighter polish, depending on your level of satisfaction and the color of your car and the paint.

He said he is planning on getting the M105 as well, so unless he has pretty serious scratches, I think it could do the trick.

If I didnt own a single piece of detailing equipment and I was starting from scratch, Id get the DI PC package with the M205, M105, 2 cyan pads, and 2 tangerine (or white) pads and then just pick up a blue pad or crimson pad and some sealant. With that simple arsenal you'd be able to handle almost every mild to moderate imperfection on your paint.

Okay, a couple of things:

First, SwirlX is a lighter polish than ScratchX 2.0. If you have really light swirls, definitely try SwirlX before moving up to ScratchX.

Also, I've used Ultimate Compound a few times and have not needed to follow it up with lighter polish. Even though it's more aggressive, it leaves the finish like a very fine polish. I'm really impressed with how well it works.

Are you sure its more aggressive than the new M105? Theres a few threads and posts on the megs forum stating that the new M105 is more aggressive.

That's what I read on Meg's forums. There area few threads where they list the aggressiveness of all their polishes. But when you say the "new" M105, now I'm not so sure. I didn't know they made a new version, so maybe it is more aggressive than the old one and it now falls into a different spot in the line-up?

ive gone to alot of Meg's open garage session and a class with them. the M105 is definitely a more aggressive product compared to ultimate compound. the nickname for M105 is rocks in a bottle. what the M105 does is it removes deep swirls with abrasive technology and as you are working the the M105 it breaks down those abrasives because the harsh abrasive will remove swirls as well as put in lighter swirls then you should use the M205 to smooth out the rest of the swirl that the M105 puts in. Thats y there is a M105 and M205 combo. For ultimate compound that is not as aggressive and more of a of the shelf kind of product so almost anyone can use it. UC is kinda like a one step fix compared to the M105 n 205. UC is definitely a good choice if you want a good amount of swirls removed. OF COURSE this is all subject to how good you want your car to be and the condition it is in.

I just used the 105 today manually with a foam pad and almost removed some nasty scratches with a bit of elbow grease. They're really tough to see now. I didn't want to use my PC for such a tiny area and was very satisfied with the results anyway. I've never tried the ScratchX so i can't comment on it.. but i don't see why the 105 wouldn't be an all-around great choice.

Thanks for all your input guys, I am going to go ahead and get the M105 and M205 and some pads. I'll practice on my old car for a big before tackling the G. I'm going to try NXT 2.0 followed by natty's blue wax when it is all said and done and see what kind of shine i can get out of it.

hey if u need help. i just came back from a night at meguiars open garage yesterday. i had them polish and correct my hood to see wat kind of results i can get. i found that M205 with a black finishing pad is good enough to take out the defects and left a nice polish look to it as well. so if that helps as well
