So how bad are touchless car washes?

I normally wash by hand, but couldn't get to it this weekend and my car is filthy. I have heard they use harsh chemicals that can strip the wax. I just hand waxed it about 2 weeks ago. So my question is, will one trip through a touchless wash completely strip away the wax? Or is it just if you use them every week it's bad?

thanks

Don't go to any touchless wash in baton rouge man. They recycle the water and etc. The soap they use does strip our wax too! I have a great detailer if you ever need it! He does full detail and he also just does normal washing and waxing. He is great and the only person on baton rouge I would let touch my car.

Also never go to h20 in baton rouge man. They suck

I actually used a sealant, Meguiar's No. 20. Jnguyen, how much does he charge for just a hand wash (no wax)?

I'm pretty sure you can make him go cheaper if you don't want certain things but for that price I think its worth it.

If it isn't recycled water, you should be good to go. You just have to dry the car down very well afterward otherwise it'll leave water spots all over the finish. Sometimes if I don't have time, I'll use a touchless car wash, wipe the car down, and finish it with a nice detailer.

How do you determine if it is recycled water or not?

Most of the carwash in baton rouge are pretty much recycle water marshall. H20 might not be but I don't remember. My detailer use to work there and he says they suck. They use the lowest grade product available and most of them don't know what they are doing. Now he works on his own and getting known by the word of mouth and online forums.

i would never use a touchless car wash. you are asking for swirls and scratches. if you are in a jam, take it to a hand spray wash bay and spray it down.

If its not recycled water, and its a touchless wash how do you get scratches and swirls in it ???? The only reason I don't use them is they never get all the crap off the car.

I wouldn't recommend wiping your car down after a touchless wash. The reason being is that 99.99% of the time they don't remove all the dirt and contaminants on the paint. So, you're basically rubbing all the dirt and contaminants into the paint and creating swirls while with wipe it down and QD it.

I'm a little confused about your comment too... if it's "touchless" how in the world would the jet of water give you swirls and scratches?
Guess I must be missing something...

I have used touchless car washes for years... and yes, I agree they don't take everything off your car, but for a quick maintenance wash (between hand washes), it's a very good alternative...
What I won't go through is through the car wash with the rollers... that's asking for scratches!

Any car wash you go through I'm sure uses very harsh chemicals. The best you can hope for is that polymers resist those chemicals better than your average wax!
