Blue masking tape as a bug shield?

Im making a 4 hour trip to houston this weekend and Im leaving at night and don't want to be killing bugs all over my bumper and lip. I was wondering if I could just use blue masking tape and tape it all up? Will it leave residue? Will it damage paint? Can i use it?

If bugs is your only concern I suggest you just get a carwash when you arrive

I've seen people do it all the time, Masking tape doesn't leave residue, in most cases.

Blue Tape is the safest to use on your car's paint. Won't leave a residue and won't damage it. Just be sure to use at least two to 3 layers because it's pretty thin.

Its painters tape that you need, don't go out getting blue duct tape. Masking tape I believe could be even a little stickier than Painters tape. So just to be on the safe side, make sure you grab actual painters tape and not regular masking tape.

alright thanks guys. Looks like I need to go buy like 20 rolls of painter tape for ride there and home.

I would do that sam but I don't want to be looking for a car wash down there cause I have 3 other cars rolling with me and it would just be a hastle.

I think you're making a bigger deal of it than it is. It's only about a 4 hour drive, all interstate, and it's not even bug season. Just make sure your car is washed and waxed and if you do get a few bugs, they will come off pretty easily with detail spray. After that trip, you are probably going to want to give your car a quick detail anyway before the meet.

You certainly don't need 20 rolls of tape to do your front end twice. Maybe 3 or 4 at the most. 3M blue painter's masking tape. It pulls off easily and doesn't leave much if any residue.
