How much soap?

I picked up the Gilmour Foamster II Foam Gun recently and some CG Citrus Wash & Gloss Shampoo. I've never used something like this. How much soap do I need to put in the 1/2 gallon tank and what setting do I need to put the gun on to be them most effective?

It really depends on what dial setting you use and also if you're trying to maintain your protection or to strip it off and start clean. Here's a blog post we made discussing the proper mixtures for the Gilmour foam gun and Citrus Wash & Gloss.

For a quick answer, the smallest amount of product you'd want to use is 2.6 oz of Citrus Wash & Gloss and the rest of the container with water, using setting E. This will give you .5 oz of shampoo per gallon of water passed through the tank, which is what Chemical Guys recommends for maintaining protection.

Let me know if this helps clear things up.

I definitely fail here.

I just pour some dishwasher soap in a bucket and fill it with water.

Keep in mind that dish detergent will strip off any protection you may have on your paint, leaving your car exposed to the elements. It also dries out your trim over time, so just a heads up.

I got the package from Detailed Image ast month that had the free CG Citrus Wash & Gloss with the foam gun. But I still personally prefer the PBW Super Slick & Suds as my favorite. It works better than dis detergent and smells good which is a bonus.

Excellent Choices, BB. I've used both the CG and PBW products. Depending on the concentration used, CG does have a bit more power to cut through tough dirt. The process I use with my Gilmour Foamer is to spray the car with water. Really just a spritzing with the light spray on my nozzle. Then I'll use the foamer and let it sit for a few minutes (car NOT in sun nor heat). I'll then spray off after a few minutes. Then I'll foam the car down once again and rinse. Then I'll proceed with my normal wash. I personally can tell that dirt is removed and loosened using the foamer.

Funny thing... My neighbor has the code to my garage and we're good friends that he'll occassionally pop open the garage door and grab some tools, etc. I came home the other week and he was washing his truck and had borrowed the foamer. He loved it. Now he's always knocking on the door and saying "Hey I'm grabbing the foamer."
