Wax vs Sealant on OB

Wax or sealant on OB: which would you prefer? I read some of the comments from DetailedImage a while back, but want to get other opinions as well. The only thing I really know is that sealant lasts longer. But does it protect better than wax? Is one easier to apply? Why do you think one looks better than the other, especially on OB? All comments appreciated. Thanks.

All I've ever used was wax. But I wax my car all the time, reguardless if it needs it or not. I like giving it attention.

Actually there's no need to choose, put the sealant on first and wax over it for the advantages of both!

exactly, use both. I've done it a few times and the results are awesome. I get compliments on it all the time.

Use a good sealant like Zaino Z2/Z5, Poorboys, EX-P, or Menzerna's FMJ for the durability and follow up with a Carnuba for the added depth and gloss. Natty's Blue would be a great choice of Carnuba for BO.

Like everyone else said, use both. A detailer told me that the sealant is better and last longer but wax gives the car a more "wet" look which a lot of people like.

Many will argue that waxes give stronger protection, although shorter, which makes it better for preventing bird dropping etchings, water spots and other imperfections from forming. It does make maintaining your vehicle easier, since waxes typically bead water significantly better than a sealant, making the sheeting method significantly more effective. The look of a quality carnauba wax is usually more appealing, especially on darker colored vehicles.

As everyone mentioned, to get the best of both worlds, simply apply a sealant first, let it cure for 24 hours, then top it with your choice of wax.

I've used the Poorboys EX-P with Natty's Blue combo and it turned out great.

Yes, this is usually the case. Most people add a carnauba wax on top of a sealant to achieve a deeper and wetter look to their finish while adding another layer of protection.

My personal favorites are Zaino Z2 and Z5. They are very easy to use and are also very durable. Poorboys EX-P is also a great sealant, however I don't find it quite as durable as Z2/Z5. I haven't used it yet, but Menzerna's FMJ is also another great sealant and George speaks very highly of it. I will be picking some of this up from him next month when I place my spring detailing order for my detailing business.

Yep, George has told me how effortless FMJ is to apply and remove. I am really looking forward to using FMJ this spring.

You can check out reviews of FMJ on George's Detail University forum here.
