Car Washing Tips

This will be my first high priced car and I wanted to make sure I give it the proper care. So I wanted to start a thread on how to keep your car scratch free, clean, and shinny.

Do you guys only wash/wax your own cars? If so what do you use and what is your method?

Do you only take your car to a car wash? What kind of car wash? Who can you trust not to scratch your paint. What about hand wash only places?

Thanks!!

Take a read of the two threads stickied at the top as it will provide you with a lot of great information.

Keeping your paint in great shape starts with proper washing habits. Use a good quality MF washing mitt or a 100% sheepskin mitt. Also, make sure you use two buckets when washing.......one with your soapy water and one with water only. Rinse your mitt in the clean water before moving on to the soapy water. This will release all of the dirt from your mitt in the water only bucket, and therefore help to provide scratches.

I don't trust ANYONE washing my car except me. I won't go to automatic car washes since they use very strong detergents and I won't let anyone hand wash my car for reasons I mentioned above. Learn how to do it yourself properly and don't let anyone touch your car.

First use a clay bar before anything and invest in a PC 7424 and a good wax/sealant. I've tried Zaino, Klasse and some others and have been pleased with their results. There are tons of tips out there... this site has many good ones - http://www.properautocare.com/detailingtips.html

ohseedee - Here is a link to our automotive detailing guide. This will walk you through the major steps of detailing and help describe what is happening to your paint for each step. The best thing you can do is learn about the detailing process and decide what is needed for your vehicle.

I'd like to stress the importance of learning about the proper washing and drying techniques. This is where a majority of imperfections come from (swirls, scratches, water spots, etc.), but with the proper process, tools and products you can minimize your chances of adding imperfections.

If you have any questions after reading, or would like a package put together to fit your detailing needs, just say the word.

MyG37 members are always eligible for a 10% discount by entering in 10offG37 as your coupon code during the checkout process. Also, anytime you purchase an item as a "Complementary Item" or "Works Best With" item, you instantly get 5% off.

We also just implemented quantity discounts on certain items, and once a month we run specials on products that are discounted at least 20% or more.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the love George! I just got a call an hour ago that my car will be ready for delivery on Friday! I will be placing an order with you today to get the supplies I'll need to keep it in great shape. I will PM you in a bit with my shopping list, please advise me on what you think. I instructed the dealer to NOT wash it before delivery so I can do it myself. I will be taking it for Clear Bra first thing, so what should I use that's locally available to wash it with before that's done? After that I'll use the stuff I get from you.

Black Betty, I might get some stuff from George too. What do you have on your list? I'm trying to decide on what essential stuff I'd need..
