Porter cable vs other random orbitals

Porter cable vs other random orbitals
Most of the people on this board use the PC 7424 or some similar PC. But has anyone ever used a smaller cheaper brand? like:
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B0002ZU756
or some other?
I know the difference is mainly RPM band. but is there any harm to using a different brand other than PC?
Thanks

most of the other RO's don't have the power to correct a finish properly and break down the polishes/compounds. Most don't accept the adapters/backing plates that the PC uses either as it the standard

I have one, and its definetly worth it. Another option is the "ultimate detailing machine" or UDM, which is a PC clone with a more powerful motor that allows for a higher level of correction. Check on autopia.org for more info about it. Its also priced competatively with the PC.

If price is a major concern then try eBay. However, whenever you shop eBay there's always more risk involved than when you just buy an item from a reputable store. There are plenty of tool stores out there that sell a PC for a little over $100.

I have a PC but have never used a rotary before. The PC is easy to use and seems to have a very high safety margin. Hard to damage paint after learning a few basics. No doubt it takes longer to do the job but that's probably the price of safety.

The only thing I hate about the PC is the vibration, I have girly hands or something, cause after a while they are completely numb. But you have to deal with that with the UDM also.

Honestly I would say do it right the first time and get the PC, I wasted enough time and money trying a cheaper buffer but in the end I ended up buying the PC...keep in mind that besides the PC you'll also need to get polishing pads with different abrasiveness and a backing plate and also different strength polishes depending on what your paint condition is like. Many detailing product websites offer a package deal on the PC, pads and backing plate. I think one of the websites that people on here buy their detailing products from is www.detailedimage.com

ahh, some first hand experience to buying the weak stuff first. I was worried that the PC would be too expensive, but I guess its more of a waste to buy the weaksauce first.
what does everyone think about this one

I use Edge 2000 pads on my PC. They're great! The automatic centering of the pads seems to reduce the vibration in the machine. Plus, it's nice to be able to flip over the pads and have a fresh side to work with. And now that Edge has 4" pads I can switch pad sizes without having to switch backing plates.

I actually don't even have a PC. I was looking into what materials I needed to wax the car.
but my question about the edge 2000, is it still considered a random orbital?
by being too far away, doesn't it null the effect of this
