Is this g37 a good deal at 16k for an 09?

Between a coupe and sedan it really depends on how much you're willing to spend and whether or not you need 4 doors. Sedans tend to be on the cheaper side but you can get a coupe for around the same price range just with a bit higher mileage.
As for sport vs base.
I'd HIGHLY recommend sport models.
Pros vs Cons between both
Pros of a sports model...
1. Bigger/nicer brakes (Akebono brakes)
2. Better body styling
3. Better suspension
4. Better seats
5. Paddle shifters
6. Better gearing & steering ratio
7. Better wheels/tires
8. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting lol
Cons of a sports model...
1. NONE

So dont go for AWD and go for the RWD for the full sports package right? Even though I live in Chicago? lol

But the AWD Sport model does not get the performance additions of the sports package correct? Thats what i'm getting from the link you sent me. Like the performance brakes, suspension, steering, etc.

My choice has been narrowed down to a xS or an x year 2013-2013 and am only trying to spend around 20k. should i wait for the 17 q60 to come out for a drop in prices ?

The coupe XS gets most of the fun bits, minus the improved steering ratio I believe. The sedan is an appearance package+seats and paddle shifters.

This would be a wise strategy for those who are patient. 6MT values may not drop off by much but the 7AT's will surely flood the market once Q60 orders are being filled.

My guess is as good as anyone's, but I would say a mild $1-2k. Dealerships would rather take a small gain from flipping the trade-in for a small profit than have to push inventory to other locations for losses. I would track the G's dealer trade-in value on a monthly basis with KBB/NADA/etc so you know what dealers are paying for the car, since it wouldn't make economical sense to sell it below this average value. You can also research how much additional depreciation hit the G35 when the G37 came out and use that as a baseline for historical trends

Thing is i don't think I can technically afford a G with my current salary. I feel like maintenance as well as premium gas would be too expensive compared to say an 2013 accord. The G is definitely the better car but I don't think I have the luxury to own one and feel the smarter practical decision would be to go for an accord.

I'm trying to decide to go the cheaper used car route temporarily or go for a midrange level like you said.
I have about 5k saved for my down payment but I'm just not sure which route to take. Of course less car payments would be nice

Thanks for the advice! What do you think of going for like a used lexus ls400 or should I go for the 2013 accord?

Exactly this. We can't give you even a decent amount of help without knowing what's gonna break the bank or not.
Personally, I bought mine as a student at $22k not thinking that was an absurd price (I'm actually pretty sure I got a pretty decent bargain on it). Granted, I knew my income was going to drastically increase and I gamed the system a bit with the type of loan I secured, but whatevs.
