2012 G37 vs new 2015 Q40

Looking for what everyone thinks as here are the vehicles I am looking at and taxes are not included. As a matter of fact, I cannot get around taxes being excluded as they are out of state and that does not matter to me.
  • 2015 Q40 w/Nav, Moonroof & smaller options for $33,000
  • 2012 G37x w/Nav, upgraded wheels, moonroof for under $25,000
  • 2013 G37x w/premium (13k miles) for just under $25k
  • 2012 G37xS loaded, 31k miles, under $24k but has a lot of scratches on the body
  • (2) 2012 G37x w/Nav for $23k

Should have reordered those but the second and fourth ones are CPOs.

Q40 obviously the most expensive but I think the deals are pretty decent, at least when I compare than to looking at a used IS250/350.

G37x with nav - not the exterior color I like but I know the body was better than the G37xS.

2013 - lacking Nav and costs as much as the above but also has the least miles on it for used and there is about 2 years left on original warranty.

My preference is the G37xS but I'm not sure how that made the CPO list as off the top of my head I counted at least 6 or 7 noticeable scratches / body flaws. Most of them look like they could be buffed out and I'm tempted to go ask them what it would cost them to do that.

Both of the last two are the same from my recollection and one has 28k miles and the other has 30k.

My wife says sometimes I am too practical and wants me to get a coupe but with a kid we do not need a third coupe.

Thanks and I welcome anyone's opinion.

Why are you looking at X models? Is it mandatory where you live?

pics of the xS? offer a lower price and use the saved money to get professional paint correction if the damage is only to the clearcoat.

and if the 2013 w/ 13k miles come with a backup cam, that'd be the second choice. i think cell navis are far superior to the car's system

Unfortunately the pics online of the xS don't show them as they are too far away. I did look at it and may go look at it again but as I ran my finger across them most of them did not seem to be deep. I did just shoot them a message and see if they would be wiling to take it into their body shop to see what their estimate would be. There is one that would be more effort to fix though.

The 2013 does have the backup camera. I just noticed that there is a 2012 with 23k miles, backup camera, premium package, believe the 18" wheels, and illuminate kick plates for $22.5k. Guess that is another option but I'm not fond of Slate Blue.

Geezer - nothing is ever mandatory but living north of the Mason-Dixon line and the fact that I will commute with it, it is mandatory for me versus a RWD. Couple that with the fact that in roughly a 300 mile radius there were 3-4 RWD and about 30 AWD for sale.

Working on the original silver xS to see what, if anything they can / would buff out or fix but also found another 2012 in town at a different dealer. A white xS with 28k miles for $25k before tax is their asking price.

My rough guess on the silver one is a new rear bumper cover plus about $750-$1000 in parts / labor to buff, take out the ding on the hood, and fill the one spot. It is currently about $1250 less OTD (no taxes considered) and is a CPO (almost 3 years left vs 6 months left).

My follow up is this - if I can get the silver one for $2250 - $2500 less do I just pocket the difference and take it to the body shop I trust?

Going to see the white one this afternoon.

I would hold out and get a sport in good condition. No way id pay that much if its not in mint condition. you can try and talk them down but do you really want to take the car you just purchased to the body shop and risk having them F it up? I’ve seen way to many buff/touch jobs gone wrong. But thats all up too you. if not i would go with the CPO. i bought my 12 CPO with 19k back in march for 25600 otd. that was 3,000 less than what we started at. but i was also trading in a vehicle so really it was realistically +1500 on trade in and -1500 on the g37. car was/is MINT

another thing to think about is the warranty. why not get a 13 CPO that way you’ll attest have a year or so left of warranty incase something happens? the 12s are out of factory warranty now i believe. i think they were 3 yr / 36k miles Bumper-to-bumper and 7 year / 100k miles power train.

Gregor12,
'12s are 4 year 60K miles (as are all standard warranties on Infiniti)...
And if it is a CPO then it extends to 6 years 100K miles.

IMO get the Xs and have the dealer correct the scratches. Done and done.

Wish I'd known about the S thing when I got mine. I won't make that mistake again.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever you choose,

Thanks for the comments everyone. Talking to a dealer out of my state now about an xS. Couple hundred more and in much better shape & will still have some factory warranty left. Plus the dealer here was wanting to charge me for the new rear bumper and for anything that didn't buff out. Still shocked they are selling a CPO like that. Let me characterize this properly - it looks like someone nicked it daily on the passenger side door with a diamond ring and there are several large scratches on the passenger side. Saw an easy to fix dent in the hood as well along with another mark/distress mark on the front fender that was bad. Just something about that car I don't trust. Guess I'd rather fly out & drive back 8 hours for a non-CPO at the same price but in almost flawless condition.

The white one I found was nice but I've realized I do not want another white car right now. Silver, black, or possibly the gray are all okay.

My wife found a red 2011 S in town but there is no way I'm driving a bright red one, just not my style. No offense meant to anyone as we all have different tastes but that is not mine. Looks nice for a rental to me but not for me to own.

If it was down to me. None of the above. I personally like the sport G's but since you're opting for the X then the Xs is the route I'd go but as you stated above not the danged up Xs you mentioned a cleaner one like you want out of state.

However whatever the price the car has listed if you can't haggle $2k off that price it's not worth it IMO. Also for a 2012 anything over 36k miles is a no go for me. But that's your choice.

I didn't read all the previous posts but what color are you trying to get?

They look find and I would have gladly driven a bright red vehicle years ago, just not now. Maybe my age is starting to show.

I did find one in Silver. Now waiting for everything else to come through and I should have it next week.

You can get a base 2015 Q40 like I have right now. I am leasing it only for $267 with $400 down.... Yes, $400 down... Lease term 10k miles, 39 months

Base = heated front seats, heated side view mirror,
Backup camera, rearview mirror with compass and homelink...

That is all I need. No Bose, HD music box and moonroof...

Currently, they are offering a 2015 Q50 base for $270 with $300 down...

This is Infiniti of Naperville, Illinois. Look for John Schultz...
