Car inspection when lease is up

Hey guys, My car is up in March 2014 and I currently have 38k miles.. I signed 15k miles per year. I'm debating on buying new set of tires for the car so I don't get banged out when I return car.

Is it worth it? Should I just get used tires and skate by?

Can anyone recommend inexpensive tires to buy online?

Another factor is Winter is right around the corner and it would be safer with new tires.

thanks guys

I returned my G37x last year for the pull-ahead program. The inspection took about 20 minutes and it was thourough but not overly crazy. They checked the tires, interior (carpet, trim, working electronics, condition of leather)/exterior (size of dings, body work repair, condition of windshield, curbed rims, tire tread), checked the condition of the spare. Interestingly enough, a few months before I returned it, someone hit my front driver-side fender while I was at church and I had it repaired. Infiniti did the body work and it looked perfect, but she noticed that there was some overspray inside. She's probably trained to look for that kind of stuff, but I definitely missed it. Fairly painless for the most part.

Do you think Infiniti would notice if a sedan sport model came back with non-sport brakes and wheels?

I don't know for sure, but I'm 99% sure they would notice. Their inspectors probably know the differences between each model and would catch it eventually.

I would think so....heres what they do

Here is what the webpage says.
WhaT Is Wear and Use?
Simply put, it’s a yardstick to measure the condition of your vehicle at the completion of your lease in order to determine any
additional financial responsibility you may have.
How is wear and use evaluated? A certified inspection company will examine the condition of your Infiniti prior to your lease
expiration date and see if excess charges apply. This complimentary, but required, inspection will also help you choose the
end-of-lease option that is best for you.
This guide is designed to give you a practical understanding of charges that may be assessed if your vehicle has sustained
any excess wear and use during the course of your lease. It will also help prepare you for your inspection.
normal vs. excessIve Wear and Use
At the completion of the lease, every Infiniti lessee is responsible for returning his/her vehicle in a condition that meets the
standards that you’ll find outlined in this brochure. A vehicle that is returned in good condition exhibits what is known as
“normal” wear and use.
Normal wear and use is the reasonable cosmetic or mechanical depreciation your car undergoes as a result of day-to-day use.
Excessive wear and use is any damage above and beyond normal limits. For example, dents, cracks, broken taillights, torn or
damaged upholstery, well-worn tires, collision repairs and vehicle components that don’t meet Infiniti standards are considered
excessive and are therefore the responsibility of the lessee. To ensure a fair assessment at its lease maturity date, every Infiniti
is inspected using consistent guidelines by a certified inspection company. These guidelines are summarized for you on the
following pages.

The vehIcle InspecTIon defIned
To make ending your lease as easy as possible, we will arrange a complimentary, but required, vehicle inspection. Simply
call the Infiniti Lease Customer Network at (800) 887-5155 before your lease expiration date for an appointment. A certified
inspection company will provide you with an assessment of excessive vehicle wear and use–if any–for which you may be
responsible, as referenced in your lease contract. You will have the option of having your vehicle inspected at your home
or your place of business. The inspection will provide you with valuable information that may help you avoid a wear and use
charge for items that may be covered under your insurance policy.z And, most important, it will give you the information you
need to decide what to do with your vehicle when your lease is completed.
After your inspection, we highly recommend that you discuss the results with your Infiniti Retailer and insurance agent.
Your retailer may have helpful suggestions for minimizing your out-of-pocket expenses on your vehicle.
If you have any comments or questions about the inspection process, feel free to call the Infiniti Lease Customer Network.

The complImenTary InspecTIon
In order to make your upcoming lease-end procedure run as smoothly as possible, we will arrange a complimentary inspection
for your vehicle with a certified inspector. Rest assured, your inspector will have extensive training and will be fully qualified
to identify items that may require repair. He or she will also display proper identification before looking over your vehicle.
Additionally, inspectors working with Infiniti Financial Services receive continuous training and are up-to-date on Infiniti
standards and procedures for excess wear and use.
Here’s how your inspection will work:
• Theinspectionwillbeperformedusingalaptopcomputer,a nd
the results will be printed immediately afterward. Digital pictures
of your vehicle will be taken at this time.
• Oncecompleted,theinspectorwillreviewtheVehicleInsp ection
Report(VIR)withyouandaddressanyquestionsyoumayhave
concerning the results.
• In the event that excessive wear and use is determined, the cost
of the damage may be covered by your insurance company, with
your only expense being the amount of your deductible.z Your
Infiniti Retailer may also have suggestions for cost-effective repairs.
• Youwillbegivenacopyoftheinspectionreport.Asecond
copy will be left in your vehicle’s glove compartment.
This copy is to remain in the vehicle until the time of return.
• Should the condition of your vehicle change prior to its return–
due, for example, to additional damage or repairs to noted
damage–a re-inspection will be necessary. To schedule this
complimentary re-inspection, call the Infiniti Lease Customer
Network at (800) 887-5155.
If you have any comments or questions about your inspection, feel free to contact the Infiniti Lease Customer Network
between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. CST.

Well to answer some of my own questions I just had my lease return inspection. Very fair and painless.

My only concern was with the tires since the lease documents state the return need to have 1/8 inch tread remaining throughout the tire. On the inside and outside of my tires I probably have less than half that amount of tread even with consistent rotations and only 28K miles, but the inspector measured the center of the tire where the tread is the best, and all my tires passed with between 6/32 - 7/32.

Besides that he noted only 2 rock chips on the front end and the aftermarket tints, granted I don't have any door dings, scratches, or accidents so guess there wasn't much to find. He missed the inch long windshield scratch right in my line of sight that has been driving my crazy for 3 years.

So time to take some last pictures and turn her in this weekend, got a 2013 G37x Sedan / Premium / Navigation & Performance Wheel & Tire package to take her place.
