New Car G37X VS Maxima SV???
I am looking to get a new car soon and have narrowed it down to two models. I am torn between the 2010 G37X Sedan & 2010 Maxima SV Sedan w/glass roof. The main things I want in my new car are: Reliability, Engine Quality, Handling, Acceleration, Interior Quality in that order. Any advise is appreciated. I have not purchased a new car in a long time. I have posted a link to a few examples of what I am looking at. If I go with a G37 I want the AWD which I don't think is available on the Maxima. Any suggestions on what to look for or pros/cons between the two contenders?

the maxima's a nice car...i'm in one right now for the time being while my g's in the shop for some replacement parts. the maxima has crazy torque steer...crazy. interior's decent and the glass roof's a huge plus. i just can't get over the cvt transmission item + acceleration (you really really really have to hold on). g37>maxima 100%.

I need to go test drive the G37. I test drove the Maxima yesterday as we have a Nissan close, the Infiniti is further away. I know what you mean by hold on with the Maxima. When I accelerated onto the hwy I kinda felt like I did not have full control of the car. I have always felt like I could feel my car, may sound silly, but like I was part of it, but with the Maxima I felt different.

Any suggestions of things to look for in a G37 or things to look out for? I think I want the AWD or X version. Any pitfalls with the X version? Any features that are a must have or reccommended? I just found out that you can get the S package as an automatic, is that something good to look for?

Get the S model and then all the goodies will come along with it. It's a day and night difference between the two. I cross shopped both with my girlfriend. She was all set on the maxima but I said we should try the G, and as soon as she say the car and felt the power, she said this will be our only car. Hands down the G wins in every aspect.

I was thinking the same thing. I test drove a Maxima SV Sport and the torque steer was to much. I am in the same situation. Might pull the trigger soon on a 2011 G37S Sedan.
The maximas are in the low $30k range. Might aswell just get the G37.

I have driven both and G37x wins hands down...
Here is how I see it...
Performance = G37x
Dry weather Handling = G37x
Wet / Snowy weather Handling = G37x
Presence / Wow Factor = G37x
Gadgets (Nav, Stereo,etc. ) = TIE
COST / Negotiability = Maxima
Interior / Trunk Space = Maxima
Dependability = TIE
FUEL Consumption = TIE with a slight edge to Maxima
Premium Fuel = Maxima (doesnt need it any more)
Upgrades (Exhaust, etc.) = G37x
Community Support = G37x
Warranty = Infiniti
Service Center Operations = Infiniti
Value = Tough one but Maxima as it gets to 90% of the G37x but after good negotiations at a significantly lower cost. Without serious negotiations then the G37x wins.

Haven't tried the Maxima, but I really like the way it looks. It is also a presumably larger car with more interior space. That being said it is not a sports sedan. It is FWD and probably much heavier in the front, whereas the G, even the AWD G is fairly balanced, being designed so that the engine is behind the front wheels and closer to the centerline. Motor Trend did a piece on the Maxima a couple years ago when the new bodystyle first came out. First they debunked Nissan's hype that it was an FWD that handles like a true sports sedan, then they made a statement like the following (pardon if I paraphrase): "Given the pricey packages an optioned out Maxima ends up costing in the same ballpark as a G37. Why on earth would anyone buy one of these over a G?" Go on the MT site and search for the Maxima if you want to read their article.
