Exclamation 2011 G37 sedan Didn't come with keychain clip for i-Key?

Hey folks, I just had my first service on my 2011 G37. When I bought the car, the intelligent keys were given to me on a simple keyring, without the small metal clip that was on my old key. See this for an example:

The key I have is *just* the keyfob without the extra metal clip with "INFINITI" written on it.

The service manager at my dealership tripped my BS meter, however, when I asked about that (among other things). He said that the clips no longer fit on the keys used on newer cars. Is that *really* true?

I don't want to call him on it without proof. What'd you guys get when you bought your 2011's?

Its not that they dont fit, its just that they are no longer included. I assume some dumb cost savings move.

Fleabay has a bunch up for sale if you want them.

Whatever that "Infiniti" thing is, neither of my 2 2011 FOBs came with them.

It's because of cutting costs. I hate those goggled cost cutters. At my company we had one, and this Douche would come up with the most ridiculoust things. I don't know if I spelled it wrong.
Good thing is, I got my '10 with two keys and they both have it.

How odd. After a little creative googling I found some on ebay that claim to fit the '08 and '09 cars. Thanks for confirming my "cost cutting" suspicion. Since I'm about 95% sure they'll fit I just bought a pair. Hopefully they fit like a champ, and I can stop randomly setting off the "panic" alarm on the car when stuff in my other keys get bunched up against the base of the i-key.

Thanks for the insight, folks. :-)

Thanks for posting as to why they even matter. I was scratching my head until I saw this post.

we're all well educated people here.....

I'm sure we can calculate this cost factor pretty well. If it were your company, you'd be figuring ways to cut cost as well....

Just like this damn deli I order for lunch...they made their rollls smaller, bowls are smaller for their salads...just to cut costs.

figure $30 bucks x 300,000 cars = $9million bucks right there

I'm willing to bet that small extension is about a $.50 t a $1 cost. But yes every little part is multiplied by a larger number than 1. And from some searching they really only sell about 100,000 cars a year.

this issue is as big as when they deleted the compass off of the rearview mirrors for cars w/o Navigation....
