If I were to purchase his car, anyone know of a method to buy the car without paying by check? Is there another payment method or payment source (finance company) that would allow me to make monthly payments? (other than banks)
Find your financing, and the bank will give you a check that is good "up to" whatever you're prequalified for. Write in the amount, hand check to other guy, have him call your finance company to verify check is good, and you're financed.

It seems he has problems w/ the bank. He doesn't want to deal w/ the bank. I think he wants to find a place that is similar to the "bring your title in and we give you cash" place.

Unfortunately, if that's the case, then he's SoL. If the bank doesn't want to finance him, they probably have a good reason for it (bad credit, judgements, no credit history, etc.)
