What do you consider "too high" for monthly payment?

$112 a month isnt bad at all for insurance, on this type of car, in a big city.
$550 is what i'm looking at, which is easily affordable - I'm just used to paying $400 or less for a car. Then again, I've only ever owned Pontiacs.

it's all about what is comfortable for your own budget. I see kids come in that spend 90% of their paycheck on a car, live with their parents, and think it's cool not saving up money for the future b/c they have it made for that anyways.
and there are those that dont' even have money to fill up the tank in their G's....

I think the more appropriate question is what percentage of your monthly income should be spent on your car payment? Even that would depend on what other bills you have. So I guess an amount that won't make you suffer in other areas (i.e. rent instead of buy house, or car payment instead of some sort of retirement investment, or car payment instead of paying off your 29% intrest credit card, etc.) Everything needs to be balanced.

I think each person has to decide on their own comfort for an acceptable monthly payment.
We are putting $0 down on a 2011 G37 sedan... why $0? Because I'm going to use money I would have put down to pay off our toddler's two prepaid college plans that has been costing us $720 a month for quite some time now.
I'm also taking advantage of the .9% APR rate, so our monthly payment will be close to $1,000 a month. Yes, it's a lot. But, it's a nice car that we will keep a long time (we are getting rid of a 2001 Accord we've had for 9.5 years for this and our other car is a 2006 Pilot).

This is kind of a useless posts. No one here has mentioned any details of a lease whether it is a 24/36/39/48 month lease, a 10k/12k/15k/18k mile lease. And from a buying aspect what is the term? I think I have only seen one reference of an apr.
Not to mention but there is not even a reference of a sales price.
So $400 for what? Be more specific.

I have never leased a car before so I really dont know much about that but as for financing, My 06 maxima was my first car. Bought it when i was 19 with no guidance at all. Lets just say they tore me a new a**hole. I was paying 632 a month after putting 5k down. My insurance was 477 a month when i first got the car. I was making 9.50 an hour at a warehouse. Needless to say I was one of those people who could barely put gas in the car. I was able to pay the car off in 3 years though after making some major career changes. Now I'm financing the G paying 684/month 0$ down, insurance 211. This fits well into my budget leaving me with plenty money to blow. I plan on paying the G off in 3-4 years as well. BTW im 24 now, cant wait to turn 25 so my insurance will drop.

Agree, insurance should be part of the budget. Low insurance lets you go a few bucks higher on the car payments. There was a time when my insurance was almost $3000 a year in NYC. Couldn't afford anything but a Ford Focus. Now at only $112 a month I'm driving a beautiful G37xS, and still costs me less (combined) a month.
