Dealership delivers award winning car sales

I thought I'd post this here since my dealership is mentioned. Appears Infiniti is not doing bad on the Island.

Smithtown dealership delivers award-winning car salesBY TOM INCANTALUPO | tom.incantalupo@newsday.com

Compared with most other parts of the country, Long Island's new-vehicle market didn't do too badly last year; it was down almost 8 percent from 2007, compared with a 35 percent drop nationally.

For some local dealerships, though, 2008 was better than "not too bad" - it was pretty good. Infiniti of Smithtown, for example, sold more cars last year than in '07 - 1,857, compared with 1,648 the year before.

In so doing, it delivered more vehicles than any other of Infiniti's 177 U.S. dealers - an accomplishment for which it recently was cited by regional officials for Nissan's luxury brand.

Infiniti sales nationally last year fell by 11 percent from 2007 in an overall vehicle market that fell 18 percent.

The Smithtown dealership, among Infiniti's first when Nissan created the brand in 1989, is one of six in the multi-brand Competition Group. Two others in the group are nearby competitors on the same "gasoline alley" on Middle Country Road in St. James: Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown and Competition BMW.

Nissan spokesman Steve Oldham in New York said in an e-mail that Infiniti of Smithtown over the past five years has "consistently performed as one of the top Infiniti retailers in terms of both sales volume and [customer satisfaction]."

Bryan Dumais, Infiniti's assistant regional manager, said all four of the brand's Long Island stores - the others are in Manhasset, Massapequa and Lynbrook - are in the top 10 nationally in sales volume, so while selling lower in volume than Toyota's rival Lexus division, Infiniti does relatively well in Nassau and Suffolk.

Dumais said the Smithtown and Manhasset stores also were cited for being among the nation's best in customer satisfaction, a measure of customer care in the sales and service departments. Said Dumais, "To win that award you need to hit on all cylinders in the dealership."

Rick Budd, executive manager of Infiniti of Smithtown, said, "We have a very dedicated team."

yup, thats why the Long Island dealerships get more support than the rest of the country! We've seen a drop in volume just a bit but we're getting clients from other makes coming to the Infiniti line up. The only problem now is not enough cars to sell =(
